Barclay Sound coho - recent report requested.

Have planned an overnighter to Poett Nook with the family for coho, tonight.
Was going all weekend but other priorities came up!
Previous year's logs indicate that they should there by now.
Called the nook and was told coho are in, but haven't always been able to rely on that info.
Anyone have any recent info?
It would not be ideal to drag wife and kids out to the coast for little to no fish.

The weather forecast is good!

Fished Yankee to Bamfield Sunday, me, my son, and my son's grandfather - kinda neat for 3 generations to be there!

There were't many boats, especially for such a gorgeous day.
I guess that's why there wasn't a response to my request for a recent report - recent to me means only a day or so old, more than that is rarely relevant since things change so fast.
At the peak by about 10am there were maybe 30 boats in sight, at least there was lots of room!
The China Creek boat launch was deserted, and we didn't launch until 0615!

Ran 4 rods, top 2 without flashers, 1 top one with anchovy and other with 4" coyote.
Over 10 small but well worth keeping springs, we kept 4 that were going to die anyhow.
Had the anchovy stripped bare twice without a hit noticed.
Missed one megahit.
Only had one coho on, about 6 pounds, it swam straight into the net.

Radio chatter indicated that most boats were getting lots of small springs and 1 or 2 coho.

Just read on the Tuff City post that the rains have slowed the coho action there as well.

Finished up at Whiskey Creek for ice cream.

Kid got more practice with the knife at home, grandad got to watch the next 2 generations' infections that he caused

The big news is that grandad is now serious about putting his boat on a trailer and finally bringing it to the fish coast from Parksville next summer - how do you spell mothership?

We got back yesterday from Bamfield and area. Seems most Coho were being caught on the Wall with bait anywhere from 18 t0 60 ft. We also fished Whittlestone and got a couple of nice 10lbers. Watch out for the squid...
