We just had an excellent charter with Big Bear Salmon Charters out of Ucluelet. The boat, the guide, the day, all were perfect. We had a lot of fun learning about fishing using their top-quality gear and catching lots of fish. They even provide boots and suits to stay warm and keep the fish goo off your own clothes. We didn't get to keep all of our fish because in that zone you can't keep wild Coho, but it was sure fun fighting them and reeling them in. We each got to bring home our limits of two Chinook each and caught a few hatchery Coho as well. Had one of them on the BBQ that night, so fresh!!

While the fishing was really excellent, the place where we stayed was even better. There's this new fancy hotel place right where the fishing charters leave from called Whiskey Landing Lodge and I can't recommend it enough. The style of the place is very westcoast and it includes so many details that we had to ask the staff on multiple occassions what the full story was. Details like a representation of the the local islands sandblasted into the lobby floor and crows heads at the end of the roof beams. Such a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Our room was really exceptional and I'm told each room is different and unique in it's own ways. My choice for the best place to stay in Ucluelet.

... and here's some photos from our trip. Enjoy.

Hummm- good to hear you had a good trip--but next time please leave the spam at home!!!!

Well played reporting LOL!!Guess you were at big bank on sunday? Saw and could hear you guys running between whales tail and the nose.. Still great out there!! Fishn outa ukee ( southbank area) sucks..

I did catch the whiff of spam in the air but I guess you guys get a special white card for helping support the Forum

haha Poppa swiss , what nice wall of SPAM!, my grandpa used to eat click , and prem, but we avoided the spam,Anyone every think maybe the guy was just trying to thank his guide by offering up a good report for a job well done? pretty sure they have enough advertising on this forum already. New rooms look pretty comfy though too :P

So lemme see if I've got this straight...If I have a good experience at xyz Lodge using abc as a guide and post about it - maybe even include some pics - it's Spam??

I would say your more then welcome to report about a good guided trip but.., providing direct links to a guide service in your report when the are already a major sponsor of the site and have a banner at the top of the page might be a little bit tacky though, (just an opinion though) plenty of other excellent guides on here working for a piece of the same pie. pretty sure that is what Poppa swiss meant by spam.

I think the reaction to the post is that it doesn't quite pass the smell-test of what a post would really look like from an independent customer who just stayed at xyz Lodge using abc as a guide.

It probably would have escaped the indignities of the wall-of-spam picture if the bed in the room was unmade, if the guy's bud was standing in the parking lot of the lodge with a happy grin, and if the guy on the back deck was smeared with blood instead of sitting in a chair checking his text messages....

I went out with a charter with these guys last year..
They use nice equipment, but are over priced and the guide we have sucked.
biggest fish was like 12# and we had another couple on the charter with us, it was a bad exp fishing Ucuelet
I would rather take my own boat out or go with one of the local charters in sooke.

Pretty much, it was a joke more then a attack on the OP.

Look at it this way. Wolf(Roy) of Blue Wolf charters has taken out countless forum members and many have posted about their experience, but they never read like an advertisement complete with pictures of the hotel room. How come Wolf's reviews never sound like this one? Its because this one is a sales pitch and it assumes we're stupid.

I agree, I just moved the very same post into the Saltwater Professional Reports on BCFR for the same reason. It looks like an ad. If the OP was from a contributing member as opposed to a first time poster, then I perhaps I might let it slide.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, then it's.........,,

Copy and paste and everything........... SB is on the list so we let it slide lmao
