Attaching power pro to Scotty Dr.

I am switching to braid and wondering how to tie my power pro 200lb onto the scotty spool. The power pro info sheet for reels says to leave 10ft of mono on the spool to avoid line slip. Doesnt say anything about rigges. I am putting 300ft on per side do I need to worry about that line slip?

Also what knot should I use an arbor knot? I know polomar knot for terminal gear but I can't tie that to the rigger drum... Or can I?

Any other tricks for Line stacking or preventing the clips from sliding? I will check out the old threads too.

I just put braided on mine, just did a bowline knot to stie to the spool, i dont plan on running near 300 feet so i should be fine, cant see it slipping. When i spooled it i used a screwdriver and applied pressure to ensure there was tension on the line so it spooled tightly.

easy Att.

Just did it myself last weekend. All I did was peel off a bunch of the SS cable then used the crimps to make myself a loop, tied a polymer to the loop and kept pressure on it while it was winding up easy peasy

I tie the braid to a Scotty snubber with a palomar knot, then attach your quick release
right to the rubber snubber.
no slippage, no messing with release locator's.
the snubbers really help prevent cannon ball break offs as well.

As for clips slipping just add an additional stopper where you want to stack or keep your clip and attach your clip just below the stopper.

For braid Scotty sells red stoppers not the chartreuse that you would have used on the cable.
I have never clipped to the snubber but was recently thinking about if I could do that without an issue... Might have to try that now.

Good luck with the braid I love it myself!!

I do the same, really happy with the setup, i also use the red colored stoppers and clip my clip below that so it doesnt slide up the line!

Yes that's what I was referring to!
Also I thought I seen somewhere a downrigger clip with a rubber surgical tubing on the area that would touch your cable and was curious as to the purpose and if maybe those were designed not to slide up the braid?

I think the surgical tube is to protect the wire from the quick release. It might prevent slippage too.

Really Craven you clip right on the snubber? I would think that damages the rubber?

So I take it I don't need to worry about any mono I will just spool up with the braid. Sweet!

After just clipping scotty DR clips directly to the downrigger braid and losing clips when friends bring up the riggers, this year I have been using the 10$ stacker clips that scotty puts out and only have positive to say. With the wire pass through snap and 2 clips, one for the actualy DR braid and one for your fishing line, they not only stay in place well but also will always stay attached should you forget about them when retrieving your DR line.

My 2 cents!

Yup, been doing that for a few years...
no wear on the snubber, and positively no slippage.
saves worrying about stopper beads.

How about attaching to the scotty spool like the op posted?

The stacking and attaching to the ball thing has been beat around the bush already enough on here.

The original post did inquire about stacking and sorry I you think it's been beaten around enough but I have gained some ideas here..... I will try attaching to the snubber!!

As for attaching power pro to the rigger I can't recall what I did, typically on reels I tie a slip knot and tighten then I add a wrap if electrical tape and continue spooling ... Never had an issue.

Has anyone noticed that there is a discrepancy in your line counter now that you have switched to braid? For example if I set my rigger at 80 ft even with blow back it will be at 80-82 ft on my HDS 8 where as with wire it would have been closer to 75.

"Has anyone noticed that there is a discrepancy in your line counter now that you have switched to braid? "

Yes, solved by putting more braid on the rigger.
I'm sure you could use some cheaper form of backing as well

How much braid did you put on per side to solve that craven? Not that I am worried about a couple of feet difference.

I wonder how long until Scotty comes out with the downriggers spooled and calibrated for synthetic?
Is wire still in major demand? I would have thought many have gone the way of the synthetic....I guess this would hurt there black box sales

They already have a "B" for braid option on their models. Didn't know it till I bought one with stainless two weeks ago. Now I've gotta swap to braid.

I started out with 225' of 150 power pro, which is even thinner and screws up the counter even more.
I left it on the spool and added another 225' of 200 power pro.
works perfect with 400-500 ' of line per rigger.

another thing to try is just bending the 'fork' out a bit more on the clip.. it squeezes a little tighter and doesn't slide
