Artificial bait

Your thoughts guys on this tidbit of an idea.
I have been thinking of taking a heated needle and inserting it through the mouth of the plastic/rubber bait and exiting it in 3 places such as the sides and dorsal area , then taking a hypodermic needle and injecting anchovy or herring oil into the tunnels made by the heated needle thereby allowing a slow and therefore long time release of the scent.
Anyone done this before ?
If so what was the experience and if it failed your ideas on why it did.

Thanks ,

I do it often with real anchovy, just a nice squirt through the pooper up into the body cavity.

Also into hali grubs, but those were power bait to begin with. It can't hurt.

Tried everal ways of scenting rubber bait. For mature migrating fish, anchovy won hands down, UNLESS it was on the offshore banks and they were feeding aggressivly out there. For feeders (immature fish), they are a lot more aggressive, and the artificial bait, by nature, will hold together better at the faster trolling speeds. I rolled up a little tiny piece of cotton, hollowed out the mouth of the fish, put the cotton in with some X-10 or whatever the flavor of the day was, and the anchovy always outperformed it for salmon.

For bottomfish, however, there were times that rubber could be scented right up to work as well as the real thing.

Thanks Dogbreath I know about the baitrix , but my Grandsons bought me 4 packages of the unscented variety and I am working on an angle to improve the chances of success with them .
Last Chance about how big a hole do you excavate ?
Sounds like a good idea !

Ok. Teaser head, Baitrix, scent, poking/drilling holes, wire set up....for crying out loud..I may as well just use the real thing! If you want to save $$$ on bait, just buy a case!

I've never tried Baitrix, but I can see how they would work. Why not just fish spoons or hootchies? If there is a good enough size fish there, you'll get it!!!

Around Vancouver in the winter, spoons and herring strip are pretty much all that gets fished....along with 4" Tomic Plugs. The latter two are not very common.

In the summer and fall, anchovies are staples of the fleet, sporties and guides alike. Assume you fish very frequently...how much money are you really going to save?

I find that the scent does help somewhat...however, if there's fish to be caught, scenting lures is a waste of time---get 'em back in the water ASAP! Linseed Oil keeps on rockin' the house year after year.

Let's line up the most popular Baitrix and Kone Zones against tried 'n true Hot Spots and the top 5 hootchies, or a Tomic 232/700 anytime of year and I bet the tried'n true lures will prevail in terms of numbers of fish caught.

I'm not saying Baitrix and Kone Zones don't work...but they're just another lure in the box and unnecessary to catch fish. However, all the more power to the guys making money from their sales.

I've had a look at the Kone Zone product and I'd like to tell Mike from Kone Zone that he definite has a quality product which makes the competition look like crap..but I stand by my words..I'm not going to buy they because I've got a zillion and one Hot Spots which keep on catching fish.

Tight Lines!!
