The spots in and around Howe Sound I like are Twin (Grace) Islands, Gambier Harbour, Salmon Rock, Gower Point, Gospel Rock. I haven't mooched at Defence for many years, but the western side of the saddle between the big island and the mainland is a nice dropoff that packs up with herring in Feb/March.

Also used to mooch off Cap for Coho back in the day with my Dad for Coho. Caught a fair amount of Sole doing this and an odd Coho. Also jigged a lot on sunshine coast and off the gulf islands back in the 80s and early 90s. Relaxing to fish and great action when the bait/lure hit.
