Any Cedar Fence Contractors?

Hi guy's

I am planning on building a cedar fence this year along one side of my property as I don't want to interact with the A-hole that lives over there. I have been looking on craigslist to buy about 25 6 x 8 panels. Prices are crazy for these things but I finally found a place out in Abbotsford who where advertising the panels I wanted for $100/per which is price I was willing to pay. I contacted them and they sent me a written quote all was good so I placed my order. I then got an email from them saying the panels are now $125 because the price of cedar went up. This was an obvious bait and switch tactic I told them to F%*K off so I am now back to looking for Panels.

Anybody our there have a source of panels at a reasonable price?
What would you expect to pay to have somebody install and fence in the lower Mainland?

Thank CPM

Were you able to convince the asshole to go halfers? ;)

Sorry to say that’s just m the way lumber works. The prices fluctuate like gas. Some places hold a quote for 30 days and others don’t.
I ate $6k over my original quote on my build as my framing materials kept rising as the project went on. Cedar prices are way up... I made my fence out of posts and 1 x 6’s but it wasn’t cheap.

I saved that money back by painting the dirt instead of installing flooring (kidding)

I see a lot of people building fences out of metal roofing . Look sharp and no maintenance. The fellow up the road did one. He told me the price but can’t remember. Looks sharp.

I’m doing the exact thing at the moment . 6x6 posts, 2x4s, 2x6s and black metal. I can get clear cedar for 2.50 a bdft which is a good price and going black metal framed in cedar is way more than panels . My material costs alone for 250ft of fencing 7ft high is close to 8k . Over on the island panels are around 125$. 8k is cheaper than sitting in jail for stroking out the neighbour though.

I have another Quote from Big Red Cedar for 118/panel which I will likely go for. the other place was ABBYcedarproducts based on some of the online reviews the bait and switch seems to be there business model.

The metal fence is an interesting idea, I will look into it.

And no the jerk next door is not paying his half. I was thinking about building the fence 6in onto my property and then painting his side hot pink... Most of the issue comes from there belief that my German Shepard killed there little rat dog 3 years ago. But they have yet to learn that if you let rat dog out at 2am the coyotes in area love a quick breakfast before hunkering down for the day. They are also city people that don't understand that farm animals in the country provide a certain perfume to the air. They tried calling Bylaw about my chickens, bylaw guy told them f&*k off. Relations haven't been great since :)

Lumber prices are crazy right now. Seen a few of these fences around

Blah we have 2 out of 3 sides that have to be done as well, about 140' feet. We can't really use panels so its hand build. I paid the whole shot last go around and then the guys out back dropped a tree on about 20' and did a total hack job repair so its falling down on our side, plus they are pleading poverty again so I gotta suck it up again.

Now that cedar and black has me thinking a lot about something other that cedar. We are in the seymour area and its wet a lot so maybe that's a more viable option.

Good luck with it, Marty, sucks to deal with DF neighbors.

Are these unfinished or do they not really intend on keeping anything in or out of the yard? I like the looked but my wife won't dig it im sure, maybe its time for a moat

Pretty sure that one is finished. There is one close to my place and the bottom is all concrete base and no holes for pets or rat dogs to get though. Just a 2" gap all along the bottom.

Interesting they did the entire base in concrete? Seems that could eat a bunch of the savings as building the forms would take time plus the truck but it would sure help with the longevity, in my area anyway.

Oddly enough, I shot her a pic and she liked the look...but thinks we have to do all 3 side so they match aaaaahhhhh

Have used big red cedar a few times in the last couple years the price and quality is reasonable get them to supply your posts, caps, concrete as well. This is a job you can do yourself if your reasonably motivated and have decent ground in the yard..
