Antenna Cable Length

I am going to be installed a Shakespeare 5225xt on my boat. It comes with 15 feet of cable and the PL259 connecter already attached. I only need maybe 8 feet of cable is it OK to coil up the excess or should I cut the coax and install a new PL259?

Like Aces said. If it’s already installed, just coil the excess. Otherwise, buy the different model where the 259 isn’t already attached. I just did this last month. Installed my new antenna on the outside, ran the wire through the gunnel using a scanstrut seal on the outside, cut the cable to length, then soldiered the 259 once I ran the cable.

I cut and redid mine. The connector has a bigger diameter than the wire, so you'd have to drill a bigger hole in the boat if the connector doesn't pass through. Then you end up with a big hole and a 1/4" diameter wire.
