Inflation rates are fairly high atm , no question but $99 for a 15 lb ball is just pure greed IMHO. You could by 2 balls at that cost and save some $$ for your anchovies funds too.

Was just out of PR for a couple days. Ran only coyote spoons in copcar. Got too many Coho to count, over a dozen smaller springs and this pig! Was gonna get chovies in Terrace at fishtales but they out and said he heard could be $30/pack! Last year hootchies and hockey sticks worked great on ho's too.

I called around a lot in Victoria and was told that there really aren’t any in the Greater Victoria area. I got some today because I happened to be in Vancouver. Berry’s Bait and Tackle. 17 dollars and change per pack!

In July, Canadian Tire in Victoria had an empty freezer, and Trotac only had small anchovies - 12 to a package. I bought some, and later got large anchovies at Sullivan Bay for a hefty price. The fish we caught were eating about the same size as large.
Today, Canadian Tire has a full freezer - large anchovy [10 to a package] @ $12.99, and x-large [8 to a package] @ $10.99. Get 'em while they're there.

Bait shortage this year on anchovys on all sizes.. Because the bait is trickling in super small loads on a weekly bases there has been a surcharge put on them to cover the cost of getting them up here the last couple weeks.. That surcharhge I hope will be gone after the season and pricing should be back to were they were for 2022..

don't see how with how much inflation we had. I would not be surprised if we see companies using 5% inflation for their 2022 prices.
The CERB magic is doing its thing. Free floating money in any economy will push the prices higher. The inflation is going to stick around for a few years, unfortunately.
In previous years, it wasn't always easy to find anchovies but herring was in good supply at all times. What's interesting this year is that the supply for all type of packaged bait is a problem. I'm not in the tackle business but is this really a COVID impact??

Some herring sizes were a problem if you liked the smaller stuff.. med. herring up was not a problem..covid did impact the companys ability to catch and the smaller stuff is not always swimming with the big stuff or around when its coming thru.. There was a much bigger demand in 2020 & 2021 as more people down in the States where fishing... there is a lot of factors in play with the bait industry
Getting limits on spring allweek on Skinny G's. Just went to Trotac today and re stocked up. At 8 bucks a spoon and multiple fish on each it a great deal right now when they are working. They get bent up a bit from time to time but i just rebend to the profile of a new one and they keep catching. I have anchovies but will ration them to when the fish get fussier and the pinks have hopefully moved through.

Still pouring money into the industry like a crazy man as every time I get the urge to buy bait I waste the money on another spoon.
The one challenge I seem to have is my bite to a solid hook-up seems to be off with spoons. Loosing more fish than I can ever remember. Testing a few different styles and sizes of hooks to see if I can get a better hook-up ratio.

The hooks on the skinny G's are garbage, first thing i do is replace with a 4/0 siwash. A buddy puts a swivel in between first then the new hook and he claims less bendage when a fish takes. I believe it but don't do it myself.

Yes I bend the tip of the hook, learnt that from plug fishing. What size hook is that?
Bending the tip of your hook helps more than a bit.
I am going to try a couple with swivels and see how it goes.
