I was hoping someone might give me some input on Anchovy set ups...
Where do you put the hook? behind dorsal fin? just into the meat or all the way through? do you use wire in the anchovy? toothpicks in the anchovy? fast roll? slow roll? more bend towards the front or the tail of the anchovy? Do you put the hook low in the belly? high on the back?

Thanks for your input.....
Cheers...

HEhehehe, this is what seperates the men from the boys. Find out what works for you. So much plays into how you tune your bait. Water clarity, depth, species, point of migration, existing baitfish, boat speed, leader length, wire, etc.

Everybody has a definite presentation that they beleive in. That my man is up to you.

A good starting point however is one point of the treble just behind the dorsal on the lateral line. Bury the point to the shank. Very simple. What you do with the bend is the magic

Good luck

I like to bury the hook parallel with the dorsal fin just above the lateral line. Just put it into the meat so that the point is buried so that the shank of the treble is close to the bait. I swear by using wire in my teaser heads. For me it helps to get a consistent role. You want the bait to flip with the head and tail rotating at the same pace. I like my bait to have a slow rhythmic roll and not a turbo spiral.

Thanks for the response.....
I am getting the hang of it,tried a few different setups with some success.
I mostly use hoochies and spoons but find using bait can be fun trying to
"find the right roll"

cheers

IT MIGHT BE EASIER TO TRY TO USE THE BAITRIX ANCHOVY IT HAS A INSERT IN IT TO CONTROL THE ROLL AND U CAN ADJUST IT EASILY WITHOUT WRECKING THE BAIT, IT MAY NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE AS ANCHOVYS BUT ONCE YOU GET THINGS FIGURED OUT U CAN SWITCH , YHEY SSTILL WORK OK , AND IF YOUR NOT USED OF FISHING BAIT U WILL AT LEAST HAVE SOMETHING IN THE WATER OTHER THAN AN EMPTY HEAD

Fishing bait isn't rocket science. You just have to try it and keeping working at it. In fact, that applies to fishing in general. Always learning...
