All Things COVID-19

Absolutely, just like it’s raging in Alberta and had been in Ontario and Quebec. Again, my point was this virus could care less about our politics. The data has shown us, quite clearly, that regardless of political system or party in power, that the jurisdictions with the swiftest and strictest restrictions on physical interactions fared significantly better in terms of both economy and health.

I do realize that it is to be expected the pandemic will continue to be politicized as our various levels of government run our healthcare, regulate our economy, spend our tax $, etc. For my part, I’m thankful my parents and in-laws made it this far w/o infection and have all been vaccinated. As of yesterday, so are the wife and I (AZ @ Costco). I’m also thankful Canada’s infection and death rates have been significantly lower than comparable countries like the UK (triple infection and double mortality rate) or the US (triple our infection rate and mortality rates).

Hope everyone stays healthy and enjoys our beautiful province this spring as, counter to what someone posted earlier, not only is outdoor recreation (fishing) allowed it’s actually being encouraged!

Cheers!

I don't visit susceptible family members so this would not happen. I also wear a mask and follow the guidelines as does my pregnant nurse wife and kids who also have not seen grandparents that live an hour away since July. I have tried my best to follow the science around this whole thing and keep informed and what I have read has caused me to question some of the things I see going on. In a nutshell what I've read says Covid appears to hit the obese , unhealthy and old people the worst. Vitamin D seems to be a factor too from what I have read. So having said that, we have a government that has forced people to spend huge amounts of time inside their homes for roughly a year now and all this has done is cause more weight gain and lower vitamin d levels so if someone is to get infected the reaction could be worse. Then the government botches the vaccine rollout so badly that we are now fighting variants that had they acquired vaccines when other developed countries did we would be in much better shape. You add onto that the international flights full of this new variant landing in Vancouver from India and in my opinion we have an issue that was not caused but made much worse by our joke of a leader. Now this same "leader" is telling me to rush out and get poked by the first thing available? Even though there isn't a promise of a second vaccine in the correct timeframe? Even though we have seen vaccines pulled due to safety concerns? We are living in a country that recently sent 200 cops to shutdown a goddamn church service. We have police check stops on our highways and at ferry crossings. They are talking about implementing a gun ban and you guys actually wonder why some people are concerned and not willing to rush out and do what the government says. Sorry I'm not willing to blindly follow some woke , virtue signalling moron that somehow is still in charge of this country. I'm also not even sure there is a vaccine available for my age group yet because our woke clown of a leader decided to poke people based on the color of their skin first. Whitey taxpayers go last in this country apparently.
Great news as of today your wife can get priority vaccinated.

It might be hard to convince healthy people under 40 to get a vaccine that may come with serious complications or death when basic risk assessment says they are close.

CDC estimate for IFR (infection fatality rate) if infected with Covid for those under 40:

0.01 percent = 0.0001 x 1,000,000 = 100 deaths/million infections for people under 40.

Of which, if we were to access full transparent data probably 5 of those 100 deaths were truly healthy, not obese, not suffering from underlying health conditions. Let’s assume this is true, 5 in 1,000,000 chance of dying IF you get infected being a healthy person under 40. Add on top of this, you STILL have to get infected, once again lowering the risk of death. Personally I have been taking very little precautions other than wearing a mask because we are being forced to. I have been in close contact with covid-19 multiple times that I know of and have not caught it. Who knows how many times I’ve had close contact without knowing and have still not caught the Covid. Maybe I already had it in early March when I had a persistent cough.

Many people are in the same boat as me in terms of Coivd risk. In these situations, why would anyone get a vaccine that is causing people to drop dead at a comparable rate or higher than risk of Covid? Obviously governments and pharma have a huge bias to underreport adverse vaccine effects. We have 3 confirmed AZ deaths already in Canada. The chance of death by Covid is shown to be extremely low for healthy people under 40. The chance of death from vaccine is also very low. But based on back of the napkin math, it’s a lot closer than everyone promoting “just get the jab” and get covid over with camp. No one is taking the vaccine to protect fellow man. Everyone operates on the “invisible hand” theory. I’m not sitting here telling people to get the jab or not get it. I just think every situation is very unique. People are going to do what's best for them. For me personally, I’d rather get taken out by Covid than by putting something in me intentionally, especially if they are close to equal in chance. There are many people that feel this way.

Regardless of how feel on restrictions I think the data is showing its working. Cases are dropping.

Covid has a strong seasonal signature. We saw cases plummet worldwide in the northern hemisphere last summer. How much can we credit the measures vs how much has very little to do with them? Correlation isn't causation as they say....

I'm not arguing they're not working, but it's hard to say how much is from the warmer weather and how much is from the restrictions.

The numbers could also be dropping as more people are getting immunized. Many people around me are already hit with a dose or 2, or are booked for one.

In not so great news, a good buddy in Alberta just told me today he’s tested positive so let’s hope he gets through it quickly and painlessly.

I think if BC actually tested more there would be many more cases. The hospitalizations are almost a match to Alberta. Keep in mind that Alberta reports its total hospitalizations and then how many of that total are in ICU. Last week I saw numbers showing BC test the least out of the country per population.

Seems like a dont ask / dont tell.

This is in no way a dig at BC. Not at all a us vs them. Also I'm not saying cases are as bad as Alberta. But it's odd how our Hospitalizations are almost the same and Alberta has been ripping the covid numbers for weeks.

Perhaps this is the vaccinations at work. I know of folks recently who tested positive & only knew because they were a close contact. They spent 10 days at home and only symptoms were extremely boredom. They had been vaccinated already. Just something to keep in mind.

I just hope as a province, country, and world we can suck it up and get past this.
I think getting vaccinated is a big step in that. I will be getting whatever jab I can, whenever it’s available for me. I hope others do too. I am not at all likely going to die from Covid-19, so yes, I am doing it for my fellow man and woman.
Let’s get past this and start going on Tinder dates again.

Only thing is they still aren’t sure how effective being vaccinated is at stopping the spread. So I’m not sure how you being vaccinated helps your fellow man. Not saying not to get vaccinated do as you will but you can still spread the virus.

I hear what you’re saying but then if you look at the situation next door in AB, that theory may not sound quiet right.

Either way they are dropping look at Alberta today. Would rather have our situation than that one. That isn't looking good.

I will say this is not surprising. Every day I see more & more throwing in the towel when it comes to restrictions. Alberta had a "fak covid" rodeo that had over 2000 pepole there. The CBC reported "hundreds" as to down play the magnitude. Local news reported actual numbers. Every day there are protests against restrictions.

Now when I go into a store I see many folks with out mask.

It's crazy how much the mood has changed over the last month. I Honestly think if the government pushes any harder with restrictions a large portion of the population will rebel even harder.
Not even the law enforcement seems to bother any more.

I hope JT can get us more vaccines or we will be in trouble very quickly.......

Recent data from Israel is proving that the herd immunity will significantly reduce the virus transmission. Viruses can only survive and spread when there’s enough hosts for them. Once most people get vaxed, the virus volume will also be dwindling down.

Alberta is just starting to see spring weather. We had snow a couple weeks ago.

But I dont know? Like you said nothing rational.

It is kind of odd that BC a province with 700,000 more people than AB has ran 2,000,000 less tests isn’t it.

Spoke to some family friends in Calgary and also my buddy in Red Deer today and they were all super worried about their small businesses, kids not being able to finish the school year, etc. My heart goes out to people who followed all the health guidelines and still ended up in hospitals or lost their business. Besides the idiocy of some, both the provincial and federal governments are guilty of the situation in AB. Only faster vaccination can bring a relief at this point.

As of tomorrow in AB, anyone over 12yrs old can "Book" a covid vaccine appointment (not register) she is wide open now to any one. Now that high risk have been covered its whoever wants it.

My wife is 37 and she got the Pfizer shot on Sunday. No underline conditions. She just asked the Costco pharmacist if they had any extra shots from no shows. They said "yup" and gave it to her.
