All Things COVID-19

A clearer explanation of what the concerns are:
It's plain common sense. Making sure we know everything about a possible UNCOMMON problem and that it can be recognized by front line workers.
It's NOT that you can't trust vaccines. It's just that there are almost always very FEW individuals that have very specific reactions At least we know that they exist and how to help When they DO appear.

So..... International flights are ok, but Canadian travel bans are good.. Two flights a day (700 people) to Toronto from India (where they're running 165,000 positive cases a DAY)...that's not an issue....

This is the stupidest thing I have seen. I cant imagine inforcing it....

I would like to hear other pepole thoughts

Absolutely bonkers purply political hack crap. lets varrients into the country and now let's do this.

Travel restrictions only make sense in jurisdictions where there isn't already widespread community transmission. The variants are here too, and there's also no reason to believe variants can't be grown locally too!

We're about 14 months late for travel restrictions to make sense.

Trudeau's vaccine failure drawing global scrutiny

"Justin Trudeau and his Liberal acolytes normally love it when he gets foreign media attention. Why wouldn’t they, it’s mostly been fawning for the past several years.

The cover story for Vogue, the steamy photos they printed with him and his wife in embrace, the Rolling Stone cover asking why Trudeau couldn’t be America’s president. That’s what Trudeau is used to but it isn’t what he is getting this week.

It started with a piece last Friday in the Wall Street Journal titled “Canada’s Vaccine Rollout Lags Behind as Cases Rise.” That was followed Monday by a special report aired on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper which was critical of Trudeau’s handling of the pandemic.

In addition to those noted above, Trudeau’s failure of a rollout has also caught the eye of Bloomberg, Fox News, the New York Times, the Washington Post and the progressive stalwart The Atlantic with a piece titled “Canada’s Vaccine Mess.

“Per capita vaccination numbers lagging behind those of 50 other countries, including Brazil, Chile, Turkey, and much of Europe, according to Johns Hopkins University’s immunization tracker,” the story states.

Nothing like attracting the world press for all the wrong reasons."

Some wonder why all the negative press from Canadian correspondents in US news as of late on our vaccine rollout. It's because, like an old truck, we can't seem to get that Ford started. Has anyone checked the battery to see if it has a charge?

Mother got her second shot last week, they all did in the Lodge. They are fully vaccinated with two shots, all the elderly and workers. They are now allowing visitations up to the rooms, 1 or 2 at a time and by appointment only. They do not want random people coming in and visiting and loitering.

I also think it’s safe to say most of the Native reserves are vaccinated out here as all the road blocks into the reserves have been taken down over the last week or so.

This is great news on both fronts. Alberta has been the leader in vaccination rollout among the 4 big provinces. I have been tracking this since the first deliveries and I'm confident to say that you folks stepped up to the challenge. BC is behind you but not by much and it could change if we could fill some of those empty appointments at the pharmacies.

My wife and five year old daughter tested positive yesterday.

Shut down the practice, all employees in for testing. Two nurses doing the testing, nurse sweetie and nurse ratched. Me and my other two daughters drew nurse ratched. Not a pleasant experience.
The contract tracer nurse spent almost two hours and then follow ups with my wife. Very impressive. I received the exposure notices to distribute to traced contacts today.
There are some major inconsistencies with the protocols, the testing call center nurse, then the RN, were great. The written stuff on the websites were mainly out of date. The actual testing nurse was a nightmare, especially for the kids. Not supportive of their concerns.
I get my results tomorrow.
I have a ten day quarantine if positive and fourteen day quarantine if negative. Wife finishes her quarantine this Friday.
House is now split into two zones.
That was a busy 30 hours. Tomorrow is looking busy too.

I'm sorry to hear this. Everyone seem okay, symptoms not too bad?

Youngest is vomiting, fever/chills, raised red rash and very fatigued. We are actively monitoring a number of data points and reporting them.
Wife was just yelling at me a bit more vigorously than usual for the past week. I thought it was forgetting her birthday, apparently, it was covid.

It's good to hear that your wife's employer is going to this level of response. Some the other tales from members here about lax workplace responses leave shaking my head.

I hope you all fare well

The CDC is reporting breakthrough cases of Covid 19. This was expected, as even the most effective vaccines had 5% of patients get symptomatic disease in the follow up period, and 6 month follow up suggests that number is closer to 10%. In clinical trials there were no hospitalizations or deaths in breakthrough cases, however the numbers were small. What is more relevant now is the fact out of the 5,800 documented breakthrough cases, 367 were hospitalized, and 74 died. These severe outcome numbers are not much different from what might be expected in any infected population. There is no doubt that the vaccines are effective, but it is information that one should assess before agreeing to a vaccine showing 70% effectiveness against infection vs one showing 95%. While it is true for society it is best for people to get whichever shot is available, and get some level of protection as soon as possible, as an INDIVIDUAL that may not be the case. While the chances are low, simple math will tell you the chances of getting sick, being severely ill or dying after getting the AZ vaccine vs the Pfizer or Moderna is about 5x higher. The AZ vaccine has a low chance of blood clots as well. If herd immunity comes with 75-80% coverage of individuals how can that be achieved with a vaccine with 70-75% efficacy? It can not. Add in children and people who will refuse the vaccines, and herd immunity can only be achieved with a highly effective vaccine against symptomatic disease.
