Heading out to join the gong show tomorrow.blue topped tyee with merc main and yamie kicker out front of cc. Has clutesi been nuts the last few days?I'm guessing the lot fills quick. Where do you guys park your rigs?Any new reports appreciated.tight lines

SeaWolf and I headed out to Tofino on Sunday and the trucks and trailers were parked all along the road for half a mile. I don't know if the area off of the PetroCan was full.......... lots of people going after the Sox.....

Nuts ain't even the word! There was a 60' Prawn Rig getting trailered today, took up the entire side of the ramp, and was there for 2 hours! Traffic backed up well down the bloody street, and a LOT of short fuses popping! [}
]You can park across the street still, the field beside the restaurant. Or go in behind Boat House. Not too big a line up there
Fishing was more than Good this morning for a couple Buddies. Easy Limits of larger sox just before the narrows, and they got there later than usual due to the backlog on the ramp. Fish were on the surface.

Thanks for the advice and report. Nog do you mean launch the boat at the other ramp? that might be a better idea but i remember its bad on a low.We will be pulling out on a 3ft tide... I figured the fishing will be the easy part of this trip Hopefully the rivers high to go with that low so the currents flowing and everyone hauls out at the same time! Should get exciting[8D]

Hey guys heading to china creek tomorrow will be there till sunday, we will be staying in creek side number 4 there will be a blue chev camper van. Stop in have a beer and say hi.

Fished this morning , dunsmier- to narrows and back towards china creek, pretty normal stuff. Same old same old as for gear, pink, pink and blue, and pink and black hootchies. same depths 20,30.40.50 ft dept.
Fish everywhere, i couldnt believe how many were surfacing and jumping but not as hungry as last weekend. Managed to "bonk" 12 of the suckers by ten oclock which was alot later then last weekend in which we were back at the docks before 8 each morning.
Sockeye are still there and hopefully still coming lots of boats out there too. Going to try again tomorrow morning ill give another update

Fish everywhere, i couldnt believe how many were surfacing and jumping but not as hungry as last weekend. Managed to "bonk" 12 of the suckers by ten oclock which was alot later then last weekend in which we were back at the docks before 8 each morning.
Sockeye are still there and hopefully still coming lots of boats out there too. Going to try again tomorrow morning ill give another update

We were out this AM aswell. Between 5-6am we hit maybe 15 and were not even bothering with the net just hand bombing them because it was looking to be an easy limit. Wrong..we hit nothing after 6am, she died completely and we only ended up with 7 and fished till 9 haha. Most fish between dunsmier and the slide as above.
As for the zoo it could have been worse but its pretty stressful. Just make sure you have your stuff together for a fast launch and haul out. To many guys leaving their boats on the ramp tied up, leaving rigs parked in the way while they prep ect. Also there was a boat identical to mine 17.5ft tyee with a merc leaving at about 440am i think hes on the site. Dont pass 10 boats in the river at 30 knots when its still dark. I saw you almost hit the bouy and it likely would have been the last time you did that.

Another update.
Had a slow morning this morning, caught 6 all before 6a.m, then died right off. Fished couse to the narrows and back. Same gear, same depth as yesterday. Not alot of fish seen caught but they are still there for sure.
Guna make a little farther of a trip tomorrow and try nahmint and hope for a limit out morning like it was a few days ago.

The involvement of the Area B seine fleet in the Alberni Inlet sockeye fishery is dependent on the Area B Seine Harvest Committee developing and implementing a fishing plan that limits the harvests of sockeye to weekly target allocations.
The Department has been working with the Area B Harvest Committee to identify the maximum number of vessels that will participate in this opening through the Working Group process; approximately 4 vessels are expected to participate in this fishery. If additional vessels participate in this fishery that are not planned for, the Department may not open the fishery.
Area 23 - Alberni Inlet
Seines open from 11:00 hours Monday, July 5 to 11:00 hours Tuesday, July 6 or until the target catch is reached, whichever occurs first in Subarea 23-2 and that portion of Subarea 23-1 bounded in the north by a line from a boundary sign at the Harbour Quay clock tower in Port Alberni harbour to a boundary sign on the opposite shore of Alberni Inlet. Minimum bunt mesh size is 70 mm. The target species is sockeye, incidentally caught Coho may be retained. Pink, Chum, Chinook and Steelhead may not be retained. All catch must be brailed and the use of power skiffs is approved.
Variation Order No. 2010-SAL-23-SN-02
Vessel masters participating in this fishery should read their licence conditions carefully. In 2010 there is mandatory dockside monitoring for all sockeye seine openings in Alberni Inlet. Logbooks are mandatory and can be obtained by phoning 1-877-280-3474. Fishers must hail their catch to a service provider within 24 hours of the closure of the fishery.
The target catch for this opening is 20,647 sockeye. If required, to attain the target, fishing may remain open until 11:00 hours Tuesday, July 6.
The pre-season forecast for Somass sockeye has been upgraded to 700,000. Seine catch June 27 was 34,647. Somass River First Nations catch is approximately 49,000 to date. DFO Port Alberni may request catch updates by radio. Please advise Test-fishing vessel Argent 1 of catch if requested.
A large recreational fleet is expected to be fishing in and near the area open to seine fishing. Vessel masters are requested to avoid fishing near concentrations of recreational vessels and to travel at slow speed to minimize wake height when transiting near recreational fishing boats.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada is interested in reports of sea turtles in BC waters. By documenting sightings we are able to learn more about how, when, and where these turtles are using our waters. If you see a sea turtle, please call this toll-free phone number: 1-866-I SAW ONE (1-866-472-9663). Please include information such as the type of sea turtle seen (i.e. leatherback), the location, and time of sighting. Fishers are requested to avoid fishing among birds and not to run the line if birds are near the net. Fishers are requested to retain all dead birds which are entangled and to release live and unharmed birds by placing them in the water. Please check all birds for metal bird bands (rings) on the leg. If a bird is banded please contact Laurie Wilson with the band number and capture date and location at 1-866-431-2473 (BIRD) or by the email below. Handle birds with gloves, double bag dead birds and label each bird with date, time, and location and store them on ice. Please call your local charter patrol to organize pick-up or drop them off at a local DFO
office. Alternatively, please send photographs of birds with a reference object such as a coin, and the date, time and location to laurie.wilson@ec.gc.ca. Your names and vessel names do not need to be identified or included.

Does anyone know when the commercial guys will be targeting sockeye in the Inlet again. Can't decide whether to head up tomorrow (Mon. 5th) or wait till next week. Commercial opening would have a bearing on my decision.

Sockeye today was great full limits for 4 from daylight till 10:00 only fished to about 50ft we fished Nahmint not a lot of boats but lots of fish. Not enough commercial boats to worry about cancelling a trip. The fish are showing/jumping all the way out to Bamfield.

Why the double post of the link to the DFO Extranet?
Also, I'm heading over tomorrow and was wondering if the inlet has been windy? There are wind warnings on effect but that is probably more for offshore. Also supposed to be a little drizzle tomorrow too. Any recent reports!
