Yes, lets talk Sports Fishing!!
The Sockeye are open Monday - who's going out and where? Black hooks or your favourite lure?

I don't get to do a lot of sockeye fishing, due to the poor returns down here, when it does open it is "wall to wall" boats. Not a pretty site.

A few years back, I was out and wasn't doing very well, so I started the typical "try everything"! One thing I found worked very well was a trout "wedding ring" rigged with a single "red" hook! If things are slow, you might want to give that a try, just for grins. :)

Thanks Charlie... I've got one of those somewhere, I'll make sure I bring it just in case.
We are either going Monday or Wednesday, who else is heading out?
I'm sure it's going to be busy out there - the first weekend is probably going to be a gong show.

Oh forgot! Behind a red hotspot, trolled slowly. I get most of the hits after taking the boat out of gear and letting it come to a complete stop! They seem to hit best, when the boat is put back in gear! :D

quote:just wondering if it said in those treaties that FN has the rite to sell fish door to door or over the phone or via roadside stand....thats what happens in Gold River....just wondering is all.....holmes*

Well the treaty that covers me does allow for commercial sales. As it states we are allowed to hunt and fish as formerly, and at that time we where sellling fish to the Hudson Bay Company. Door to door no, but teepee to teepee yes! We used what was called the Moccasin Telegraph instead of the phone, But like everyone we have evolved. Back then there was no currency, so we used the barter system, now there is currency so Natives barter for Money.

Take only what you need.

No, I'm pretty sure the Hudsons Bay company wanted us to keep selling fish to them. It didn't state in the treaty anything about not selling fish, as it was commonly understood that sales and trade of fish was part of everyday life.

quote:It is not just the "whites" job to properly manage the fisheries! Maybe the FN should come down and take some lessons from the Puyallup Tribe? They seem to have figured it out. The responsibility belongs to EVERYONE, even us south of your border!

I totally agree with you on this point it will take everyone working together to manage our fisheries responsibly. The only thing missing on this side of the border to make that work is 50% of the TAC!!! Up here all we get is shi+ and abuse for practicing our rights.

Take only what you need.

I'm sorry I started this post since it started all this political bs. All I wanted to do was find out if the socks where running yet!
