Affordable Radar Option $11 for the Iphone

Hi All,

Thought this maybe of some interest for a cheap radar option. It's won't detect most small sport vessels but big commercial boats, freighters, cruise ships etc you will be able to see them with an app that costs $11

there a number of AIS apps that are free. try 'marinevessel.com' big ships use class A, smaller boats use class B. there are many small vessels who currently have AIS. this is a RF system so line of site to the antennas is a limiting factor just like your VHF radio. in other words. you can't really count on AIS.

I don't use it but thought for the weekend warrior that has an iphone it was a pretty neat and cost effective option. A person if they have 3g could just go to the AIS site online and use the live feed for that matter again free.

Do you need to be in cell range to use the app?

If your streaming then you would require cell service which out of Ukee is not a problem if you don't have service there is an antenna designed for the app if you visit the first post link it will tell you which ones.
