Additional Tankers , maybe its part of the reason

There is a lot , I mean a lot of info and debate on the closure of the waters from Ukie to the Sandheads , to help the Salmon and SRKW and some mention of the NRKW as well. This tread isn't about that

BUT,

I don't see any where where its talks or has speculated on the fact that the Feds are vigorously pushing the west coast pipeline. , if the Feds were successful in closing all the areas as noted, to Fishing, Tourism and basic Economy along the closed areas ,wouldn't it make it easier to find acceptance of the pipeline and additional
tanker traffic, after all its the same path.

What do you guys think, Is the proposed closure a smoke screen and there is a ulterior motive by the Fed Gov't?

I agree. I’ve thought this right from the start. Easy to spin it that with our engine noises gone, it will balance out any noise from the tankers and although we as sportsman will suffer, Canada as a whole will be better off. Lack of salmon as food is just a convienent coincidence. I’m not saying there’s no shortage of food just that the timing is a little conspicuous to me.

I agree it is somewhat suspicious that this whole salmon/SRKW emerges as the Feds are in a battle with the west coast over oil delivery to China. Media has been spun into shifting its focus to a chicken little situation, which sells more newsprint ....

I don't think so. I think the more that industries get shut down under the flag of the precautionary principle the more vulnerable other industries become. This includes sport fishing. Decisions have to be science based and there is a place for the precautionary principle however when media, foreign funding to NGO's, and special interest groups get the political voting support from urban centres science goes out the window in order to get votes. I find it amusing that the sport fishing community in general has demonstrated the idea it is immune to this for all these years and now seem suprised that this action is happening against it. I am not.

But it's not only the SPORTS fishing industry that's affected or reacting and the science doesnt support their position . You can read several other threads on those points. Hence, in my opinion we have to think outside the box and this is only one I have considered as maybe a possibility as far fetched as it is ... thanks for your responses !

Whos pipeline is it?

More than 100 First Nations could purchase the Trans Mountain expansion pipeline

Who's ever pipeline it is , it's the Fed Govt (Albertains will argue its theirs) crude that is needing access to China ...That's my point !

What would ever give you that idea? Maybe this.....

Residual Burdens of Project-related marine shipping
Even with Trans Mountain’s commitments and the Board’s conditions, some impacts or residual burdens would remain, and were fully considered and weighed by the Board in coming to its recommendation. The full description of how the Board balanced the benefits and burdens can be found in Chapter 2 of the Report.

In regard to residual burdens from Project-related marine vessels, the Board kept in mind that Project-related vessels would follow a route that currently has high levels of vessel traffic, and that, even if the Project does not proceed, the level of traffic is predicted to increase in the future. While the effects from Project-related marine vessels would be a small fraction of the total cumulative effects, the Board found that the operation of Project-related marine vessels would further contribute to cumulative effects that are already jeopardizing the recovery of the Southern resident killer whale. Therefore, the Board finds that the operation of Project-related marine vessels would likely result in significant adverse effects to the Southern resident killer whale, and on Indigenous cultural use associated with the Southern resident killer whale.

Furthermore, the current and predicted future vessel traffic, even if the Project does not proceed, would contribute to an increase in Canadian greenhouse gas emissions. While the Board recognizes that emissions from Project-related marine vessels would be a small percentage relative to Canadian greenhouse gas emissions, given that there are no regulatory reporting thresholds or specific requirements for marine greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, the Board finds the greenhouse gas emissions from Project-related marine vessels would likely be significant.

The Board also took into consideration the likelihood and potential consequence of a large spill from the Project or from a Project-related tanker. The Board finds that both of these events would be of very low probability given all of the mitigation and safety measures being implemented, but nonetheless, would have a significant effect in the event of a large spill. This factored into the Board’s assessment of burdens.

And not one of the coastal first nations are involved with this group and those are the ones that need to be onboard if this project stands a chance of getting built without all hell breaking loose.

Pretty much inevitable IMO that there will be civil unrest and I expect to see it in my life time. Too much identity politics which is having the opposite effect from what it is intended for.

yes, identity politics creates racism. I was looking for a term to use for this issue. thanks.

I wouldn't call what's happening in our country racism but more along the lines of resentment. When special interest groups receive preferred treatment over others people tend to resent said groups.

And yes I fully agree with birdsnest that civil unrest is on the horizon, it's not only on the horizon it's taking place now. But it's time some lines were drawn in the sand, enough is enough. Nothing like a good dust up to settle an issue.

I think you missed the "yellow vest" and the PCC movement, to me that spells bad actors taking a movement to a dark place.

Stop watching CNN and other fake news. You will want to recognize all of the new UN based laws being married into, and in some cases overriding the existing Law(s), that have now been implemented and are fully affecting our lives here on this area of Earth. You won't recognize your own freedom in ten years while Canada will be fully under the arm of the UN to manage and manipulate our lives, economies, food security and more...sad but real. That is called SOCIALISM and your ok with that?!

Big US Oil is paying the anti-oil ENGO groups to fight to land-lock Canadian oil. It's a scam. Follow the money. US oil is getting Canadian oil at $15/barrel, compared to the world price of $70/barrel. Its in their interest to keep the cheap oil coming by preventing Canada from getting our oil to tidewater. The ENGO groups are big business, profiting from US oil money, and fighting to land lock our oil. Their US donations are funding the protests, and the ENGO groups are profiting from creating yet more enviro crisis issues - that's their business model.
