Does anyone have one of these that they could comment on? It seems like there's 2 different motors for them out there. 1 new and 1 old. Could anyone supply a part# for either and tell me when they bought it so I can see how old the one I'm looking at is?(it's used) Thanks.

I have one and its been reliable , bought it two years ago from Harbour Chandlers in Nanaimo.
My son has the boat and trap puller right now so can't give you the number you require , hope to have it back home by Wednesday.

Cheers

I would say its your best bet for sure... I have used them many times and they are reliable. Also, as was stated above they are very well backed.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've yet to hear any negative. Alley Cat - if you could check the number it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Okay,

I'll throw in a negative. They are a good puller for fair weather but the motors and their drive shafts are made with Chinese steel so I went thru three of them prior to building my own heavier puller. On two of them the motor burnt out, and with the third one the drive shaft out of the motor snapped. The two that died were the old style motor, the one that snapped was a new motor.

Again I think they do a good job for pulling in fair weather in the summer but they are not up to pulling in any type of wind with multiple traps. There are a number of posts on how to build your own puller for about the same amount of cash using 1500 pound ATV winches which will leave you with a much more durable puller.

Hey killerkurrs , looked all over my unit and there is no number on it , where is the number located on your rig ?
My unit was purchased April 2006.

I agree. The Ace bounces around too much in rough seas as it pivots and mounts on a single Scotty downrigger pin. The all stainless steel King Power costs more but has a custom mount available that locks the base of the unit securely so it won't bounce. It also has a super high torque electric motor that is inside a ss housing and not exposed to the salt water. The boom arm folds away to take up less space.

"King Power Trap Puller KP240 is taller, has a longer boom arm and now has a maximum pull of 120Lbs with its larger worm-geared motor (60 Amps Max). All polished stainless steel including motor cover. Includes mounting bracket and carrying/storage bag. 10 year warranty on frame. 2 year warranty on motor."

My buddy loves his King Power unit and feels it is worth the extra cost. We've used it in all kinds of weather to pull the maximum number of traps. You can see the unit at: http://www.fusionking.com/product.htm

It's sold at Steveston Marine and a few other marine supply outlets.

I love the fusion king puller.. great product.. a friend had an ace and the arm bent on it so it went back..do a search on this forum for prawn pullers..lots of info there.

I have a Fusion King Puller and it has taken a good beating for 4 years. Strong motor and frame.

johnssportinggoods.com has a puller like the Ace but a bit cheaper with a lot better motor, a friend just sold his Ace to buy it

One more vote here for the fusion king puller. I got mine when I found it on sale for the same price as a cheapy ace puller. Of the people I know who bought the Ace, they have either needed to replace the motor, or have the aluminum arm fixed after bending it.

My King power will haul a string of 4 ex-commercial traps without a problem. Go stainless! You won't be disappointed.

It's starting to sound like i need to fire up the welder and build a unit.......

Al - I don't have a unit yet, I was looking at a used one. I checked and saw there is no motor info on it either. Some other posts talked about an older, weaker motor on the earlier builds. Just wanted to avoid buying a lemon. Thanks for looking.

No problem , I saw the discussion before on the Ace hauler and the many negatives about it , and so far mine has held up , I know of many others out there that are still working and have no problems............. the main reason I bought it was it was made by a local guy and not some company outside of Canada ............. support the local businesses when you can and defend their reputation if possible.
Fixed income people don't have the luxury of buying almost commercial rigs.

Burned through my second Ace this weekend. I'm just past my one year (bought in June 07) but I sent them an e-mail to see if there is anything they can do to help. I'll post their response.

I'm a bit surprised becuase I usually only pull one trap at a time and I've gone through two of these darn things. Between me and the fence post, I'm not that great at shrimping either so it's not like the pots are too full. :-)

Kramer I saw you are US wondering where your shrimpig...... Lawson Reef has been good, and tides this week are awesome

Got an e-mail last night from the folks at Ace. Even though I'm just out of warranty they are still going to take care of it for me. Good people to deal with. Update, new motor is on the way. I paid the freight and they shipped it out today. :)

Charlie, nope, no Roger here. Kramer is my dog's name actually. Humpy, I'm in PA so I never get quite that far in or north.
