Hey guys, Bamfield is a great little town. Don't believe anything about the ******** in that article about Jack investing millions of dollars in that town and getting nothing but grief. The "millions" that were invested just went into the purchase price of the properties that he bought (and he bought a lot of them) and then he proceeded to close them or run them at such a low level that they should be considered closed. Now why he did this no one can be sure, but he's been tied to Martin Chambers and organized crime and people in organized crime often need losses to write off gains in other places no...?
Thankfully he didn't buy all of the property in town, and the people that still live and work there are awesome and there are some really good places to stay with.
Bamfield itself is a great little town, let that be known. If you want to go out to the coast for a couple days or a week and spend your days on the water fishing, exploring, having a good time, going to beaches that are basically deserted there's no better place to go. Bamfield as you guys know has awesome fishing most of the year, there's 2 gas docks there, Purdy's pub, you can get salt-ice in town, there's two small grocery stores, marine store, 2 liquor stores, and you can find most things you want.
The feeling there is much the way it used to be in many small coastal fishing villages, Bamfield isn't Ucluelet or Tofino with a bunch of clueless tourists walking around with cappacino's in their hand looking at the scenery and watching whales. The people that seek out places like Bamfield are more the types that like serenity, good fishing spots that aren't too busy, locals with lots of character and not a lot of people everywhere all the time.
There's lots of good places to stay and things to do in Bamfield, don't let some article about Jack Purdy and his questionable ways make you think that Bamfield isn't worth coming to. It is and people come from all over North America every year to fish out here and enjoy it because it's one of the last undeveloped places on Southern Vancouver Island that's pretty easy to get to. The fishing is rigtht up there with any of the top places on Vancouver Island for springs, halibut and coho and once you there you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, not a few hours away from hundreds of thousands of people.
It's worth checking out if you have never been.
