Abel Reels

The product is precision engineered, not to mention they just look awesome. I've got a couple of MR2 (green) and 3's (gold) for sale as well. PM me too. (Gotta sell something if I'm going to buy a couple of Abels).......

I just sold mine..... :) in the market for new reels :) :)

Hey this beer you gave me tastes like ****........

No doubt! I think that is the stupidest idea ever. Even my surfer buddies won't use them or buy reefs now because of that stupid gimick. It's just gross.

I can't find the mooching reels on the Abel site. Are you guys just using the large fly reels?

Thats US pricing......

That is true, but Pacific Angler had them for either $700 or $749 when I called last month.

I'd love to hear what the review is on an Abel from a guide giving them a thorough test. They sure sound nice but aren't they designed with the same issues as the MR3. They have cork drags, so do they really have no creep??.... And they don't have a freespool.... I'm wondering what makes them hundreds of dollars better??

I called them.... They are based on their tarpon reels. "If they can handle tarpon they will stop a salmon"

Try $900 in Canada

Obviously guys you didn't read the entire thread....you can pick Abel's up here for $650, not sure where your getting the $900 FA, but if you buy from them direct I can see them costing that much.

Islanders MSRP on the MR3 is $650, but most stores sell them for around$549.00 to $599.00 and they have a limited 2 year warranty. Abel's have a lifetime warranty, and for the extra $50-$100 dollars, depending where you buy and islander, I gladly paid the difference for both the superior quality and warranty of an Abel.

On a fishing note, at 200-250 feet I have never had any line creep at all on my Abel's, I can't say the same for any of the other mooching reels I've ever owned or used, and that includes Islanders.

Hambone...I've used them all year and fished the crap out of them from Vancouver to Rivers Inlet and can tell you they are worth the money. Honestly though, the only way you or anyone else for that matter is going to find out how good they are is to go fishing with someone that runs them, or buy one and give it a go.

Cheers

I looked and their web site and called and one of their Canadian retailers. Highwater Tackle in North Vancouver and talked to Jillian I think her name was. Dave's daughter? I do believe.

FA...yeah Jillian is Dave's daughter, and a great fisher woman....boy that girl can catch fish. I get most of my gear from Dave, and he's great for taking care of all his customers. he really cares. Next time your over drop in and see what kind of deal he'll give you on an Abel.

Cheers.

Great store it is. I moved to the island before she was old enough to start working there. I was quoted $900 and $75 for coloured reels.

That brought me back to looking at buying direct. $700US tax free+ 12% coming into Canada.

I got my Blue III's for $650.00 each, only a bit more than Islanders, and Abel's have a life time warranty. In my opinion and experience they are worth the extra money.
Are Blue III's not MR3's? What is a Blue III?

I am guessing this is what you are referring to saying Abel's are $650

What I really would like though is to actually have my hands on one of these reels. I have yet to find one in my area. I won't be buying one blind.

Pacific Angler had Abel's priced a lot less than $900....when I was there a few days ago I think they were $750 or less and they had stock.

Sea Run is Coquitlam has had Abel's for a long time. If you talk to them they can give you all the info you need. I think they sell them for around 650 to 700. I was looking at getting a couple of Islanders last time I was down and they put me on to the Abel's. Islander based there MR2 and MR3 off of the Abel Tarpon reel. They are a bit pricey but you pay for what you get, I paid just south of a 1000 for my Milner steelhead pin and after using it for a couple of years I'd pay 1500 for one. I'm a big believer in you get what you pay for.
