I was out fishing on Sunday along with Greg (Bigredsnapper on here) and we had quite the whale encounter. I typed up a story on our new site (ill post about it tomorrow) and figured i should share it here as well. Hope you guys enjoy.

I was on the bow with my eye in a camera lens so i had no balance, when a buddy ran to the other side of the boat. I damn near did end up swimming with them!

very cool indeed, once in a lifetime
wow, looking forward to the vid,
I wonder what would have happened had the whales realized where the seal was hiding?

simply amazing!!!

Seems this type of stuff is being seen more and more. This is starting to happen up here as well, a group of KW's were playing the game with some seal lions off the top end on Malcolm Island last month.

Thanks for posting.

Cheers

wow - incredible! Great play by play. I'm going to read this to my kids...I'm sure my daughter (9) will say, "Ah...poor seal." But that's nature!

excellent pics..... thanks for posting, maybe the whales might come hunting off snake island, we won't miss a dozen or 6.....rotten seals...

When i was kid , fishin from our 16 ft DE , sorta seen somthing similar , was in Tswassen , back when there were actually fish there , a small transient pod surrounded a seal, one torpedoed from below , injured and bloodied em up good , then outta no where , KA SPLUSH right outta the water from another, landed on em ,finished em off, Orca chit pretty quik !!was kinda gross ta see as a kid , didnt sleep well for a while lol ,, was about 20 meters away during this , not quite front row like you guys , when i was scopin at ur shotz ,kinda freaked me out , imagine one comin down on ur rig or worse , YOU , alotta fricken damage man !

another , seen a Killer chase a seal up the south end of secretary island ( Sooke ) about 12 years ago , had the seal in his mouth , but pushed himself so far up he couldnt slide back down , completely outta the fricken water ! he let go the bloody seal after a few seconds , coulda swore i heard em say HolY Faaaak !! after a few minutes , and encouragement from his pals , he finally got back down with a little help from the surf ! Front row seat for that one ,

fricken cool ta see whale tales eh ! nice job....

That`s getting a little upclose and personal-- glad you had your camera handy. Very nice shots of the action.

You may have saved the seal today, but eventually he`ll have his day in nature`s court and I bet he`ll be looking for another boat to bail him out.

Excellent photos and terrific story.

wow, pretty incredible right there! As much as they pester us you can't help but feel for the guy. Wouldn't doubt this story grabs a few headlines..

That would have been awsome to see. A few years ago a guy that used to fish out of Deep Bay had the same experience, except there were two seals involved (mon & her pup), they also looked to get on his boat, but the whales got both of them.

Wild experience for sure. I'm glad your a camera guy and got all that on film. I can't believe the expressions on the seals face!!! Wild stuff.

Great new site too.
