A-Channel Halibut newscast

Thanks for that. I was busy grinding up this year's load of sausage last night and totally forgot about the broadcast...

Not too bad, but methinks the message regarding "declining stocks" was overplayed a touch. While we are all concerned with the stock's status, the Halibut Commission's findings suggest that the overall standing biomass is in pretty good shape. It is the "exploitable biomass" that is down which is a reflection of individual sizes amongst the population. With a couple strong year classes coming up, we should soon realize an increase overall.

Cheers,

I like how boyes says at the 140 mark "i dont think" ought to get the bigger share of the resource" HOLY F man did you just say that...... they get the most out of it 88% this is about being FAIR I cant believe he just basically cut his own throat what a dork..
I will always maintain that its not these guys I want gone the TRUE westcoast fisherman they are the working man but they are a victim of there own doing. its fairly simple if you havent fished your qouta in yrs or dont own a boat you shouldnt have it(quota) because your holding it captive to hold over someones head .... ohhhh yeah whats that yep GREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as usual when you step up to the plate with the media you never know what will end up on the editing room floor....believe me I came out swinging, especially at F#@*K -up Duncan and went over the whole IPHAC 88/12 etc etc...too funny when Boyes says quota increase should not be given to those who rally , meet and lobby the most then today you see a flurry of crap from them....including side by side letters (Duncan) in the Comox and Campbell River papers the day after the Town Hall meeting in Campbell.....usual piece of SH*#@T move by a piece of S#@*T politician after having his head up his butt for two years.....write to every newspaper.....the Vancouver sun, province, times columnist, comox vallet record, the echo......keep the pressure on.....when you see them striking back you know we are making some noise.....it shouldn't be the us and them thing but if that's the way its gotta be so be....keep it up on all fronts....letters letters letters

Never mind Gil-- you did what you could ... but I think its time the coalition thinks about taking out newspaper ads so our side can be put forward. The general public still dont get what is at stake here...........

Can the coalition afford TV ?? best way to get your message accross hands down.

We know it is not about conservation and lack of fish.
We know how many pounds of halibut Canada is allowed to catch this year.
Issue is WHO gets to catch it??

The only way the public will ever understand or care about what's going on is if it's made clear how the government gives away our resources. I doubt Halibut is the only resource belonging to the public that has been given away. It's my understanding that potash in Sask is another similar issue. what else, and what's next?
AND, if the slipper skippers aren't stopped, WATCH OUT who they may want to sell their quota too.

cant cut a xmas tree, can't cut firewood, if we are looking at resources given away then lets shut down the logging, mining, oil sands, and farms all canadian resources that have been given away.

So what you are saying is that its perfectly acceptable for the government to give away all our marine resources too??????

Well? Fisher69?? Are you happy with big brother giving away the resources of Canada?????

Most anglers accept and give their rights away annually to the FED each year when they purchase, sign and agree to operate under the contract of that fishing license. The unfortunate side is that when we do this we are bound by corporate law that enables ACTs with the force of law, ultimately giving control of our rights to the state.

Take no prisoners boys we want our public resource back in the hands of the people where it belongs! no buy backs no reductions no Govt, B.S.
