9.5 - 12’ Jon Boat - Spratley, Journey, Lifetimer, SS?

Spratley, journey, marlon, and lowe cover the vast majority of jon boats currently sold that are used by the trout guys. Marlons are very thin and light, too thin in my opinion. Lowes are riveted and quite popular.
If you want welded you will likely be choosing between a spratley and journey, you can't go wrong with either choice.

LOL - you defined the brackets of applicability & limits of stability for flat-bottomed boats in your own answer: "stillwater" & "lake" - as I already mentioned in my posts.

I have about 40 years of experience in all types of boats - including flat-bottomed - long before AI was invented. Sounds as if you have limited experience in rougher water and fishing/working on the ocean. I am assuming that Google still works if you wish to challenge or check-out what I said in my post - rather than simply type LOL. Nice that I shared my TEK, eh? You're welcome! :)
I would agree, the 12’ v bottom I posted above is more stable than any of the flat bottoms I have been out in. 2x 6’ 200# guys can work the downrigger and reel in rod both on the same side of the boat and it hardly moves and this is in wind and waves on the ocean at 6’ wide it’s blown me away how sturdy and solid the boat is. The one @myles is running around in is even more so.

That said these are one off boats and built much sturdier than your standard aluminum lake boat. Not a car topper they need a trailer but will last a lifetime.

I've had one over-priced fisheries consultant that didn't know boats get sold on the Jon boat hype and supplied one for his crews doing CPUE using a gillnet. After 1 try - the crew refused to use the boat again - because of the ease in capsizing when weight is on one side when hauling nets or fish aboard when using flat-bottomed boats as described earlier.

And I quote the the name of this thread...

9.5 - 12’ Jon Boat - Spratley, Journey, Lifetimer, SS?

Not what is the most stable boat design on the planet. So one would assume the user is looking for a jon boat application not an ocean boat. So I repeat LOL dude.

Do you plan on fishing solo or with two people? I have a 10ft SS duck boat. Absolutely love it for solo fishing. It will fish two people but it’s not ideal. If I was buying a boat for two I’d go with the 11 6 Journey or even the 12ft Marlon’s are nice. Cheers

What's that saying? Assuming makes an “*ss” out of “u” and “me”? But ya - people do have specific needs - you are correct. Defining that need using boat abilities verses application has what has been happening all through this thread where people have been contributing their experience & knowledge. That's exactly why I & many others like these Sportsfishing forums.
