Hey "Putt Putt", I would have the "big one" as soon as I laid eyes on that monster so............. I guess I would not have to make the decision of catch or release! :D SS

Read below this article about the sockeye and springs.
How come they have so many and we don't?
Could it be that the commercial boats all down the inside are cleaning the runs out?
Don

funny, i thought the same thing about the daughter thing...freaky. As to keeping - geez tough - I would have to get a picture for sure, but it doesn't look that 'delicious' at that size, and I'm not a trophy stuff kinda guy.

Find it very interesting the number of excessively big caught this year though up north when the fishing on the whole has been crap.

would the meat even be any good ? to bad we will probably never see one this big again . [V]

Agreed kelly...the 2nd picture shows that a bit better. I can't even imagine a salmon that big...boggles my mind. And if I was there I'd give that guy a high five...he scored not bad there for his age.

Just talked to a guy who guides up here yesterday and he said it wasn't half bad...I left on the 28th of Aug...back in Ottawa now. Chinooks have been moving through fairly steady...he said one of the latest years he's ever seen...and he's been around a lot longer than me.

all i can say is wow, look at the tail and head on that thing, only wish it was me in the pic

Heard of an old fella come in with a 87 lb. of Oak Bay late in the 1960's. it measured 55 inches long and 42 inches girth!!

I heard somewhere that smaller populations of fish are taking advantage of the enormous amounts of feed out on International waters. The ocean has had substantial upwelling this year due to storms. The krill and plankton growth has exploded. Baitfish have benifited and of course the salmon has no doubt cashed in as well.
Less salmon means more abundant feed for those that are present.

= Big butt salmon

I would have to see that to believe it, however a 57 lb Spring
was caught in Oakbay about 6 years ago.

That might have been the last spring landed here though [xx(]

Ya I don't buy it either. It was rumored by good old B.Wright and therfore probably just a boost for his ever sinking Oak Bay dynasty.

sorry all I'm saying is ..I and anyone else that read a newspaper...
