the bayliner is a 1984 with a 350 in it
it has leaky valve stem seals, sourcing the 0.327 umbrellas is not a problem if i wait til Oct.16 from Summit but i cant find the 0.327 o-rings
you can find 5/16 and 11/32(0.344)
21/64 would be 0.328
are people just squeezing the 5/16 o-rings on?

Call TER Holdings in Campbell River, ask for Rick, he may be able to help

yes, bayliner probably got a deal on these motors, the springs are on the skinny side also
im wondering if there is even an o-ring, these are the only umbrellas i can find
8.30mm is 0.327

used a cell phone to try and see if the umbrellas were rubber but all i saw was metal
i think they are metal that get tapped on

i dont want to pull a spring to see if there is even a groove for an o-ring til i have replacement parts in hand
you might be able to slide an o-ring down the valve stem before putting the spring and keepers on just to deflect some oil but these umbrellas might need all that oil for lubrication?

went to a hotrod forum and they said the 5/16 are good enough, they just deflect oil off the valve stem before getting to the umbrella

i got the casting number off the head, 378450
called a head shop and they said it was from 1985/89 chev caprice 305
its a 305 4bbl
mercruiser 938-6536>938-7482
checked my hin and its a 1981 bayliner which puts it in the right time frame for the mercruiser motor thats in it

but i still cant find seals for the 0.327 stem, the head casting number points me to a 0.341 stem and a 11/32 o-ring
lordco and napa both cross referenced the ac delco 10212810 (0.327) and it gave me felpro ss 72861(0.344) umbrellas
have to take these 5/16 o-rings and umbrellas back

just going to stuff some rope in a cylinder, pull the springs and see if i can get a different reading from the digital calipers lower down on the stem and maybe even try a different set of calipers

i stuffed cotton rope in the cylinder
no umbrellas???

the valve stems are different and i think they had 11/32 o-rings, they werent seated in the grooves
heres the measurements but i think i need the 5/16 o-rings???

the exhaust valve stem is odd

did a search for a 1985 caprice found these intake stem seals/o-rings

it says i need these exhaust seals/o-rings

problem with those is they are 0.344, im not sure if thats for the o-ring and the umbrellas are 0.3685
the exhaust stem was 0.3685
0.375 is 3/8"

comp cams 504-16

anyways, ill go to lordco tomorrow and check if they have the felpro ss 72527/26 in stock and see

got the felpro ss 72527/26
the intake will work but the umbrellas on the exhaust are too small 72526
the valve stem hole is only 0.338 not 0.368 or 0.375
lordco cross referenced the comp cam 504-16 to a fel pro ss 71152

but it doesnt give the valve stem dimension and i dont trust their cross reference

my exhaust was 0.565 x0.3685

i found these kibble white 71011-8, 3/8 x 0.562
not in stock til sept.6 and lordco has no cross reference for them

i just ordered the ss 71152 and see what shows up i guess

the intake umbrellas are nfg either, too small, 0.450ish id on the guides
got smart and went to mercruiser website
my block is 460777, 1978/79

according to mercury only some of these motors had umbrellas and only on the intake valve if they did
i think what im going to do is stop dealing with lordco and only use Summit so i get exactly what i want

the merc umbrella was part#97664 but was superceded by part number 26-8m0050563
theres no dimensions given for it, kind of frustrating

found them at Summit, again no dimensions

does anyone have the specs for the valve guide on the merc umbrella seals?

im ordering 8 kibblewhite 71011-8 for exhaust

found these kibblewhite 11/32 stem 0.562 id guides 71007-4

and a pack of 11/32 o-rings

just going to put the boat back together and wait for parts
atleast i got a crash course in valve stem seals

found the merc intake seals at Steveston Marine, ill go there tomorrow with calipers to see if they will fit
