Is it possible to jig for bottom fish or mootch for salmon in May? Even cast? On the "way inside" say from Julia inlet back to Stopper on that line? I would be in a small boat, so picking my days would be high on the list.

If you can make it over to Lyall Point...which is a pretty short hop from Secret beach...I've caught some smaller (but legal) springs around that time of year. I trolled the area in red, but around the other side of the point would probably work too. You can for sure round up some rockfish around Stopper islands and other rocks near there...might get lucky with a Ling too.

Pretty good volume coming out of Barkley the last month. We fished Forbes mostly until the herring thinned out. A couple nice fish in the mix there around the spawn. Swale has been the consistent spot for us, and a nice spot to hide from weather this week. Another good day down there today. Fish shrunk a bit (mostly 5-8lbers today but that's alright).

Finally edited my Aug 2025 video with the family... went over to put it in the archived 2025 reports... not open to posting any longer. I'll put it here. Unfortunately doesn't look like I'll be making it out this year. Kids have a Choir Trip to Sweden for a couple weeks in August, so I'll be going with a friend for a few days to a lodge for something different.

You guys should pay more attention to your rods. They were bending with fish on, and you didn’t even notice. You had me shouting at the TV, “Fish fish fish!”

Haha... my dad doesn't really pay that much attention. I have to do all the rod spotting and driving. My head is on a swivel... but sometimes if it slows for a bit and we are both on our phones or chatting, sometimes that makes the delay. But also makes the video interesting. I like seeing those rods bounce a bit before we get to it. Most people who don't fish don't even know why we are jumping up, haha. I know it makes it seem like that on the video, but we are on them pretty quick and when I do the whole edit of hours of footage, there are actually very few that we don't see at all. It happens, but surprisingly not that often.

I'm sure you can imagine that I have received this question more than a few times. Seems more like a rhetorical question. There are actually 10 adult PFDs and three childrens PFDs on the boat. I do wear one when I go out alone. Took me getting a little older and a YouTuber actually drowning in Ontario while fishing alone in his boat. Nobody really knows what happened in that case. There are times I make the kids wear them and times when I don't mind if they don't. Since it isn't a legal matter I still see it as a case by case decision. It's usually Americans who direct the most derogatory comments towards me since I believe 12 and under have to wear them down there. Ultimately it's every individuals choice at this point in time up in Canada. I agree that everyone and their dog should wear a PFD at all times... cause I don't trust any of them to be able to save themselves and would never tell anyone to not wear a PFD.

It's irrelavent whether it's legal or not.You have kids on a boat and a case by case decision doesn't cut it.
You'll never forgive yourself if something disastrous happens attributed to one of your case by case decisions.
You can't predict accidents,if you could there wouldn't be any.
Kids are precious. Grown ups -well that's debateable.

Decent bite off of Ukee this weekend, lots of fish between 6- 12 lbs with our biggest being 15. First time for us every single fish was a hatchery. Another first for me was hooking up some cabezon while lingcod fishing, can’t wait to try them they look delicious, biggest bullheads I’ve ever seen LoL. On the way to sail rock we ran into a mine field of gray whales, blow holes, tails and breaching everywhere, there must of been a hundred of them all around, absolutely spectacular to see, never seen so many whales in one place.
