2026 Ucluelet Fishing Reports

Good week of weather over the holidays. Managed to sneak out for three trips.

A whack of prawns around Barkley Sound (100 pot average). Still a pretty low berry rate. Standard sizing for early in the winter.

The odd decent sized spring. We fish the back end of the Sound predominantly this time of year as it's a nice flat water fishery. Volume slowly trending upward as usual for December.

Look forward to continuing to get out there in the weather windows.

Well I couldn’t hold off till April, had that island itch, got the motorhome ready from winter sleep mode and headed to Ukee to enjoy some fantastic weather. Got out for a half day trip with oceanswest adventures, fished some new spots I never been before, got into a couple springs for my wife and daughter, and a bunch of prawns. Thanks seabeyond for a wonderful trip and getting us hooked up last minute as it seems most guides are in hibernation mode right now. I thought the itch would be gone after this trip but it seems it got worse LoLIMG_5298.jpeg

Shhhhh winter is for watching football and going to boat shows :)

Glad you made the pilgrimage, even doggie looks happy!

The winter, keep your camper with us, special at Surf Grove was sure tempting!

For the non-islander folk, any chance you can expand on this? I will be in that area in May, and hope to get some close to shore, bottom fishing in. Maybe a PM is its naked chicks and blow! Fishing spots are easier to find these days.
I just like the early season, I get most of the place to myself, the dock is right there and the pub is within crawling distance, fishing is good. Most people think it’s a dump but we always enjoy our stay. LoL I am a non-islander, and no more booze no weed no blow for this guy, just one naked chick, heck I barely fish on Sunday’s anymore 😂IMG_4007.jpeg

I have a BNB booked in May. It will be my first time there. Anyone have an recommendations for cabins that may be available? Maybe non BNB type places? Not a deal breaker but I'd prefer to stay on the North side of town so I can drive over to Barkley, as well as Tofino inlet. If you don't want to "blow" a place up, a PM would work. I will be there for about 10 days.

I get it man, at some point, all us thoroughbreds will be headed to the stables. In the meantime, what's the name of that pub?

Is it possible to jig for bottom fish or mootch for salmon in May? Even cast? On the "way inside" say from Julia inlet back to Stopper on that line? I would be in a small boat, so picking my days would be high on the list.

Where are you launching your boat?

Not a report but a question for you Ukee guys…..which map do I use for no fishing zones? Ones a map of the rockfish conservation areas and ones a map of the marine park restricted area. Both are in the fishing BC app.

No fishing in the RCA obviously and you could do a google search for the marine protection area as I can’t remember all the regulations but it’s unrelated to fin-fishing.

Definitely the second one is better but not what you should use. Keep a paper and current copy of the rockfish conservation areas on your boat, printed off from DFO. I had a digital map for the whole province and there were areas in Sidney and Bamfield that were missing, people are probably still using it. DFO doesn’t care if you are trying, only if you are complying. https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/maps-cartes/rca-acs/index-eng.html

I'm hoping its the one on the right. . .the one on the left has most of my favorite spots grayed out!
