2026 Port McNeill, Telegraph Cove Reports

QC Straits and mainland inlets are open to 1 hatchery/1 wild til July 31. After that its still 1/1 in the inlets but only 1 hatchery in QC Straits. In August we often fish in the mouth of Wells and Fife passages and catch both chinook and coho.

Are the hatch Ho’s the smaller <5lb ones that we get more commonly down Nanaimo way? I hear stories oh 10+ northerns, those are typically wild and hard to come by?

Over the years, we've caught lots in the 8-10 lb range, up to 12, mostly wild. My daughter caught a 13 a few years ago. Last year, most were in the 6-8 lb range, again mostly wild. None much smaller.

Early season (late May, early June) you can get lucky and hook into a 'Northern coho' which predominately run down the outside, but I've caught up off the Gordon group.

It's going up fast now, the shots from the last few days are looking good. Would be amazing to see the Killer Whale Cafe open for business this summer. Leo is really concerned about where they will find another mounted prowfish to put in the restaurant. :)
Better tell him to make it his mission to catch another one, although it will cut into your salmon time.
