Late April, wow that’s early and I’m jealous!

Perhaps we’ll cross paths this summer, my wife grew up in McNeil and worked at Telegraph a couple years as a teen. We’re planing to make a family trip too see some of the sights from her childhood, and fish!! Looking for accoms now, hopefully spend atleast a week. @Capt_Ed, considering salmon fishing, are there any pros or cons to before or after Aug 1?

Only advantage is if you come after Aug 17th the size limit goes up.

Thanks! 2 under 80cm prior assume? It’s an Adams sockeye year, not sure if they travel through Johnstone but would be amazing to catch a run.
Wifey on call in July so we’ll do the first 2 weeks of August, just in the process of finding a place at telegraph.

Oh dang, hard to feed the fam on that… that was one of the reasons I didn’t like fishing the CR area, although the water conditions were great.
Oh well, I’m sure we’ll have enough fun whale watching, searching for shellfish, bottom fish and coho. We’ve booked in at telegraph Aug 4-8, excited to see some new water!

Closed to All Bivalve Species in area 12 prawn and crab is all you can harvest wild coho is open early in the season but closes later Spring salmon opens what July 15

Closed don't mean they are bad. Locals eat them all the time.
At your own risk though.

Mostly prawn and crab, though the kids love clamming and wifey is all about the oysters… I’m always disappointed in the lack of testing that is completed. Anyway, appreciate the heads up Blue… I’ll likely play it safe and just buy bivalves if we want a feast one night. Or find @Samnjoe’s buddies to follow around haha.

QC Straits and mainland inlets are open to 1 hatchery/1 wild til July 31. After that its still 1/1 in the inlets but only 1 hatchery in QC Straits. In August we often fish in the mouth of Wells and Fife passages and catch both chinook and coho.

An hour more or less in decent conditions - eg. 7 miles from McNeill to the top of Malcolm and about 12 miles to Wells. 10 miles from McNeill to Donegal, 12 miles to Fife. More time if its an ebb into northwest - early morning is best in westerly.
