2026 Port Hardy Reports

Planning on coming up to a cabin this August. I was wondering how is the current in the bay. I take a small inflatable around Nanaimo in the summer. So i know how to hug shore and be safe. Is there fish in the bay worth me bringing the small boat up for me and the kids?

Which cabins?

It's not the current it's the wind and if it's not the wind it's fog.

Also check to see if Salmon is even open to retention when you'll be there.

Ya, Hardy bay is pretty mellow for currents (assuming that's the bay you're talking about). There can be pinks and coho around Hardy bay in August for sure. I used to take my canoe out there around the Quatse estuary - pretty good action on the right day

It was a plan mid August and Bear cove. We are just in the planning stage so dont know if happening yet. Thanks for the info.

Pinks on a even year?

Pinks on a even year?
Pinks every year lol. Not sure which year is the "big year" but there's always enough to draw people out to fish for them. Even on smaller run years, which seem to be more predicated on local egg survival and big picture ocean conditions than anything else, there's always plenty to catch off the beaches near the clux, keogh and quatse. I wouldnt over think it.
