What color was the flesh.
Went out yesterday, took home a 63 and a 69 , both whites, like white white.
almost never get whites, lots of marbled fish in the winter, some reds.
In the last 5 trips released many in the 50 to 60 range, only 4 keepers, one red and 3 whites.
funny I used to be a red sping snob, I'd lift the gill plate and check if it was a red or white.
released lots big fall whites over the years.
Smoked up the last white a few weeks ago, my 15 year old daughter ate the whole thing in 3 days.
when I was getting ready Saturday she told me I need to bring home more white springs.

Kept the crew out all day LoL, they should know better… ended up with another keeper 63 which was white. The 79 was red, full crab traps for the crew to take home. Got another few just shy of keeping, overall seemed like a slower day but still kept busy all day long.
That 79 was my personal best for a winter so I would say it was a great day!

I was out Tuesday in the non-forcasted windstorm; brutal north wind, steady 15 all day (ugh). We ground through the ebb tide with nothing. About an hour after low slack (12:30'ish), the bite came on & we got a couple chunky ones (nothing over 10)....working the 90-120' line dragging bottom. Released some more (shorts) & lost some (some pretty good pullers). 4" spoons worked best; nothing in bellies even though bait was thick on the deck.

At this time of year upsize your tackle a bit bigger- 4.0 size spoons minimum. Hoochies on a 30-34” leader are good too. 4-5” plugs as well. Yes, your hook ups will go down. You want quality fish. Modern tackle is designed to hook up small fish. You may want to go to 5.0 spoons if you are finding sub legal.

Was out this morning for 2 hours off North Arm/UBC. A bit more blustery than what my PredictWind app told me it would be. Landed 10 (or rather got them boatside and released). 1 was under 50cm, 9 were between 55-60. Most action on a 4" homeland spoon, couple on the naked 5" copcar. 1 on a hootchie. Fished anywhere from 140-180 on the bottom. Just wasn't our day, but good mental health day regardless.
