What quality is this herring ? If not eating mostly using for bottom fish I figure ? Can’t have many scales left and bellies prob go soft pretty quick since not starved like the store bought stuff?

That was the case the first couple years I tried so I mainly used it for bottom fish and pawn bait. But last year it was in great shape and if brined well enough, fished perfectly.

(4th season now) at less than 1/10th the cost of pre-packed it’s a no brainer. I get 3-4 bags, about 10-15% are chinook worthy, the rest for Hali, cod, and the rough ones for crab & prawn.

Very nice stretch of weather coming up, should be a few good reports. I’m heading to the island, otherwise I’d be out for sure!

Basically the smallest ones I get… so 6-7”. Most are over 8”

Ya looks worse than yesterday unfortunately supposed to lift off around mid day. Worst we had was about 100' of vis yesterday. But the bay was fully clear after crossing under the lgb. Straits full of it tho.

Dodging fog banks between mile 1 and 2 markers yesterday. Decent action but again all undersized fish. One was almost legal. Dragging bottom between 100-150 feet. The usual game.

3 unders at Defence. One lost at side of boat. Looked like a possible keeper. Oh well… one other boat got a huge fish!!! Said it was over 20. They held it up when we went past them. It was very big! Stunner of a day!!!

Pretty thick pea soup out there yesterday, worked the Bell for an hour early (no love) then decided to cross. Just enough visibility and trust in the radar to cross over. Definitely gotta keep a close eye for debris, but doable.

Good consistent action but no keepers, a couple fat looking 60cm-ish in the mix, didn’t bother to boat them for measurement. Full load of prawns for 2 guys and had to dump an entire trap full back in. No eggers.

North Bowen yesterday 9 to 3pm only one hit. Saw a few others catch undersized. Fog was bad til 11:30 then managed to stay out of it. Caught bunch of prawns no eggs but put a few back as had too many. Nice afternoon.
