Jigging for herring? So was out on the weekend near Pollier for a troll, and there was what appeared to be a fleet of sport boats (like 20 of them), perhaps 2 miles south jigging out in maybe 250 feet of water. What's going on there?
As far as Fishing, had a bunch of undersized, one keeper on., lost All on 4' spoons on bottom. Maybe 1 bite on the 602 plug fishing the other side.
Do they get any? Are they getting black cod or Hake? Those are charter operators out of Ladner, steveston, Vancouver. They are jigging for “black cod”. They are there every fishable day..
Just gonna go spool up 500' of depth counter braid now......Do they get any? Are they getting black cod or Hake?
Ahhh. I missed the quotes.Black cod was in “quotes” for a reason.
DFO has been advised. They either can’t, won’t or … perhaps .. don’t need to intervene.
Yes. I know. On occasion, black cod have been caught in the straight of Georgia.
Yeah I’d put “charter operator” in quotes too lolHuh, That makes a bit of sense, I ran over to see what the deal was, there were some nervous looking fisher people about. One of the boats had like a dozen people on it! There's no way that TC would allow a commercial charter to have that many people onboard, some must be private vessels, no? or perhaps 'unofficial' guiding? I always thought that black cod were caught mostly in traps, but I guess that,s more of a commercial fishing thing.
Bonkers

Took a friend along with our young sons out for a short troll near tumbo Saturday. Friends son got to reel in his first ever salmon - a beauty 64cm into the cooler. Released a few undersized, then the kids got bored so we went to do some hiking and a shore lunch. Finished with a couple traps full of nice size prawns. Beauty day to be on the water

That's not an RCMP boat. Private build of the BW government product line. Just a nice commuter for someone to live on Gulf Islands and get to the mainland.... or wherever he wants. Brunswick product line, thats real.money when you have one of those as a commuter. Albeit a bid nerdySlow crabbing over the weekend but had a good time and got about .75 keepers per trap. Skunked on a quick exporitory prawn set, as mentioned in another thread. Special thanks to Liquid Metal who was hauling out a boat with triples and took the time to help us not hit the dock at tsulista in a bit of a wind and wave. Pretty nice 35 Rcmp Boston whaler in the background

PM sentGonna take our new boat out next month for her first fishing trip, most likely hitting the tumbo area for winter chinook. Without specific spots, is tumbo area shrimping done on the straight side or inside between Saturna? Or should I be looking somewhere on the south side of saturna to set some traps? I anppreciate any info and hoping to have a successful trip to report.
