2025 Vancouver Boat Show - What's Cool?

Okay, finally got my head back together for a report.

Arrived Thursday on the Hullo ferry, straight to the cocktail hour at the Sutton and check in.
Raw oysters, bottle of cava and a few negronis later, start feeling the love.
Was going to do a pre-lap of the show, but events including a hot tub, a sketchy alley and dinner at the keg intervened.
Not too sure about where I was trolling or even fishing for the rest of the evening.
Life turned a bit Jimmy Buffett when I ran into a chum with a bottle of rum, poor hotel room.

Made it to the show at 10:30 Satruday morning and met my dad after little to no sleep. We were looking for a deflatable to replace our advanced deflatable on the Canoe Cove. Have weaver davits already in place, so needed the proper dimension deflatable. This was actually a good place to do this. Although it is quite painful watching the old man bargain over $50 for half an hour, but I digress.

The relic boat perked me right up like a cold plunge. The builder's son was there, who did a restoration on it, great guy to talk to. He would not let me test pilot the boat, although agreed it would have provided many laughs and a couple of broken ribs.
The weather turned pretty nasty Friday afternoon, so did not head over to the floating show, and instead picked up a few partners in crime and looked for other indoor entertainment. Roxy had a bunch of people celebrating harder than me, thought that impossible, but I could also tell they only had another hour in them. So, off to Brandy's to see the international talent. Salena from Cabo did not disappoint.

Check out was a gong show. The mini bar and room service invoice was three pages long. Desk dude thought it was a mistake and asked me to look it over and confirm. I told him if anything, it looked a bit light.

I was the guy on the 11:00 Saturday Hullo ferry to Nanaimo with a new kids lifejacket, bulldog handsfree prawn attachment, drooling a bit, but not fully waking up when we hit some large flotsam.

No big deals on gear, as stated in this thread. Usually buy my two go to flashers for the season, but just not feeling it.

Boat showing is not the displays or the deals, it is more than a frame of mind. It is an experience that one must prepare mentally and physically to endure. I though I broke a partner in crime, they were non-functional Saturday morning, but insistent that I did not break them and they would take a year to recuperate and do it all again.

Yee haw.

Greatest report of all time! Hard to beat that. Sounds like a blast.

Well, I had no where near as much fun as Gong Sho!

Bought a fridge. Going to try out one of these Chinese Alpicool Fridges that Steveston Marine has imported and slapped a “mariner” label on it. Hope it lasts a few years. Just that and some tackle that’s no easy to find on the mainland. AP Spoons. Nothing else really, but still browsed around.

Relics boat was definitely cool. Some photos of the restoration work. Looked pretty original, but from these photos, it’s morphed into a few different things over the years.

This electric boat project was interesting. Never heard or seen this outboard before.

Nice to see the Jasper Marine defender in person.

Some “new” Kingfishers but they really are the same thing but some glass glued to the windows to give them a new look. A wider window/ door.

A couple of silly boats with electric motors, too. For days on the lake.

Lots of fancy North Rivers and Axopars on display too.

Anyhow. Lots of fancy boats.
