2025 Port Alberni and Alberni Inlet Reports

Matt do you know what the numbers were? Wasn't it 500,000-700,000 and they thought there could be more?

Yes. Original forecast was 500,000-700,000 adult return, which they suggested may have been an underestimate.

In fact using one of their models (run timing) suggested it could go as high as 901,000 (609, 000–901,000).

Then in the July 25 assessment it was noted that even if 750K were to be returning that the Tsu-ma-uss, Areas B & D, and "Stewardship" catches were all over the TAC assigned for that number.

Next thing you know everyone is shut down this Friday.

And here we are...

A
I do not believe they are late. I believe they were over-harvested.

In a week retention will be closed...
Absolutely over-harvested, before they had their escapement.

The kept upgrading the run by estimates from the test boat so the commercials kept harvesting. It's kinda like having the fox look after the chicken coop! Dfo didn't wait for proof and escapement.

Or that might be the max number they want in the systems. Could be more towards the 150000 range. I know I read it somewhere but can't quite remember

Left Victoria with son to go fish Port Alberni for the first time. Left house around 2:30 arrived at ramp about 5:00. It was hard picking. A fish here and a fish there. I lost 3 by boat side son lost 1. Total kept 6. Weird thing is starboard side shallow rod never got a sniff. Most were caught on port side top rod. Bubble gum mini skirt with purplish streaks and red flasher. Wind really picked up around 11:00 and a cargo ship was heading in. Decided to call it a day.
Forgot to mention they were deep. All caught between 120-86
