There’s always halibut in kyuquot! I’ve actually seen it pick up later in the season, even after sporties been pounding em the locals haven’t been long lining for awhile…

It is a prime time when I have been there around that time. If you get too close to the middle of the month it can be hit and miss. If your boat is capable getting out on the highway that time of year can be great.

Thanks for the response! I've fished Winter Harbour at the same time a lot with good results. I assume it would be similar. Is it worth taking prawn traps and is the road better or worse than into Winter Harbour?

I went out the road to fair harbour in late may and it was in much better shape than the road to winter harbour.

Wondering if anyone is heading to Fair Harbour and could bring me a spare trailer tire/wheel?
We shredded a tire on the way in and although we have a spare, I’m a bit nervous about nuking another one on the way out (what’s the chances right).
If there’s anyone heading this way before Monday who could bring one in, please drop me a DM. We’re camping out in the islands, but can arrange pre-payment/pickup.

We’ve been camping, so not really fishing that hard as we can’t pack fish. That said, around South Island and the closer Barrier Islands it’s been quite good - we’ve caught Ling and Springs anytime we’ve tried.

IMO this stretch of rain just moved the fish that were here and has replaced them with a bunch of dinkers. If we get another dry stretch after there should still be some good nooks lurking by everyday for another couple weeks. Coho will be good regardless for another month.

Didn't see any sockeye, just got back few days ago. Coho are everywhere, springs left when it rained but i'm sure more will move in.

Oh the surfline filled back up with good grade nooks already. 2-1 nook to ho ratio in favour of the spotted tail. Boys are getting em pretty good offshore too. Don’t see any rain in the forecast so should be good till the end of August anyway.

You don't cancel a fishing trip becuse of what might happen in a week.
True. Just wondering if the fish will still be around after 2 heavy days of rain if it happens.
