2025 Campbell River Reports

Headed out this morning. Weather report looked very promising, but clearly it was wrong. Ended up being out in the wind, rain, and fog. But we had the place to ourselves.
Headed over to the south end of Quadra and set the prawn traps. Then headed back towards Shelter Pt. to try for some salmon. Threw a couple of plugs over the side in about 200 ft of water. It was non-stop action for the next hour and half or so by which time we were done.
Got a nice 76 cm white spring along with a few smaller ones too, including 1 hatchery spring. Turned the head in, so looking forward to hopefully learning where it came from. Didn’t see any bait on the sounder, but one of the springs had a nice fresh mature squid in its belly along with what looked somewhat like a baby hake or similar. Plugs we used were a 700, and some unknown variation of a 602, both 6” versions.
Then headed back to check the prawn traps. They were full, so did well there too.
Headed back to the ramp only less than about 4 hours after we had left there. Met up with patrolling DFO officers at the ramp which was great to see. All was good of course.
Another great day on the water, even though I haven’t been that wet in a long time…..
