First fishing trip for us since moving to CR. 9:30-12.Fished the contours on bottom around the red can and made our way towards the green can. We did get a fish, unfortunately under-sized by 10cm, gaff released to fatten up for another time! Can't wait to try again!

The contours right off the red can?

Saw a couple of nets being waved in the deep off Shelter Pt today- more and more boats working the area with the great water conditions lately. Not happy to see a commercial boat out there though - probably on a food fishing permit- fishing with the gurdies and dragging multiple flashers and spoons per line. Been out there several days recently.

Got out for the afternoon tide today, non stop action before the change! Two beauties to the boat and lost three others of size, less shakers that previous days. On plugs 135' to 210' on the riggers, biggest fish of the day were suspended off the bottom in nearly exactly the same way as my previous outing. Fished plugs today mostly just to test prototypes, although jigging would have kept me warm!

Took advantage of the weather and got out again for the last time for the foreseeable future with the wind coming back next week. Still really good, fish are moving around a bit but the usual spots are still hot! Awesome battles, had one fish go full marlin mode with multiple head shaking jumps behind the boat before tossing the hooks. Started off with plugs and released 3 wild fish of about 75-ish cm, lost two larger ones behind the boat as well before getting bored of trolling and going jigging. Couldn't keep them off, got a karma hatchery and kept a bleeding wild one to end the day 65cm and 74cm respectively in about 20 minutes. Still have some space left on the licence, not trying to fill it out but I wouldn't be heart broken about more of these tasty winter fish!

Caught our first salmon since moving to CR from Victoria. Thanks to the fishers who replied to my questions. This beauty was caught on a #602 plug in 200ft of water 20ft off bottom,69cm. Fish for dinner!

Looking for a winter spring report. Going out in a couple of days. Any yummy winter springs out there?
we got into quite a few the other day on the hump. we started doing willows / shelter run but couldn’t keep the juvenile lings off so we moved to avoid hurting them. the finder was completely blank when we got our action. we were jigging flatfalls right on the bottom. we got one keeper around 7 lbs. they are there. my bro in laws father got a 24 1/2 pound chinook the other day south of comox !!

Does anyone know if the Big Rock boat launch has been cleared of logs? Or, is it a DYI ? Also, where would we place them if we moved them ?
TIA,
Xena

I checked it out earlier today - there are some logs on it but I think you could clear it fairly easily - very easy if you bring a chain saw- less than 10 minutes. Don’t worry about where you put the logs you move!

I also remember watching a guy burn out his clutch in an old beater pick-up at the WP Ramp!!! - back in the winter days when we fished for springs with polar bear flies on the surface!
