Quick trip out of Cheanuh today. Went out near the Head at 10am and non stop coho action. We picked up our 4 hatch limit in 90 minutes and let another dozen go. Some of the wilds were near 8lbs but the hatchery were more around 4-6lbs. 10-30ft was working and didn't even bother with the rigger.

Went out this afternoon out of Chenah, started trolling at 1130, 5 mins later a 17 lb wild spring, released, 80 ft spoon, and in the zone. Stayed in the zone and got 3 more teener springs, all released. Headed out and got into coho and was non-stop. Managed to get 3 hatch. Then trolled back to the zone and got a 9lb hatch spring.

Tons of bait everywhere it was boiling literally, and even schools of coho boiling too in a surface feeding frenzy. No whales but still quite the show, even in the rain.

I realized something after catching that last spring. With the way the new rules(Aug 1) are for catching springs, technically I can keep a 30 lb spring in the zone as long as its a hatch right now up until July 31, but come Aug 1 I'll only be able to keep a 80cm (21lb) or less and one (1) only. My have the times have changed.

Good luck out there.

Well aware of where Muir point wasn't the issue. The map is already confusing people.

When there are comments on public forum it means it has gone beyond e-mail and is not clear. Don't understand why it's labeled that way. The inside map shows the closure. It looks like your referencing the srkw closure as Muir point. I wouldn't have done it that way but again not by call, and not my direct area on SFAC. We already have people posting false things on Facebook that Sooke beach is closed for fishing which it isn't.

I was really myself today.

Hit the road nice and early (04:00) picked up my dad for a sooke day. On the way my boat top straps ripped off so my top was flapping hard and is damaged beyond repair.

So we went topless in the drizzle until it calmed down. Not the end of the world. Hit small springs and coho right away. Nothing of size and nothing to keep.

Then the canonball fiasco started. Doubled up on catching bottom and lost both ballls, clips, snubbers etc. So I was running low on clips and made one work out of a stacking clip for the braid.
Then hit bottom again and lost that side entirely. Bye bye ball number 3.

so I used my last stacking clip and stacked the one side I had left with the one ball I had to run. We got into some more smaller fish and a few tangles with the stacking setup.
Eventually got into one solid fish off the head around 15/16 pounds and released.

3 hard keeper dungees to make up a bit, but when you take the damaged canvas and lost gear I ate a few grand today.

40-60’ best lure was no bananas G force combo.

Still totally worth it!!!

That sucks about your boat and gear.

Sorry about the losses....
No need to fish the bottom off bechey head.
I wasnt on the head at that time. I wandered near possession and saw a huge kelp bed and wanted to get close to it to look for a big guy hiding. next thing I know there was a 30’ pinnacle. I took my eye off the chart for a minute :(

Wandered back out to Beechy from Vic today, arrived and I was fishing by 8. Dropped the gear in the triangle to see about my luck on a keeper spring. Did several loops, put in a solid 2.5 hours with nothing. Decided to point the boat in the direction of the head to try for coho, about 20 minutes later, and well out of the zone, I hooked into a small wild spring, 7-9lb. While i was out at the head, I made short order of 2 clipped on the first two coho I caught, 1 was a decent size weighing in at 7 lbs. then the tide really started to rip, and so I was trolling my way back to the zone to try my luck again on the flood. Arrived and again in short order, rod took a hit, I jumped on it, managed a small clipped spring, 6-8lbs, called it day around 1:30, and headed back to Esquilmalt.

Better call Vern.

I went out this morning with a friend and best pup dog on board. Wanted to hit Beechey but the west wind going against strong ebb was sort of yuck so we tailed back to Pedder Bay before the pup got seasick. Fishing was nothing special but fluked a couple of nice hatchery coho in the bay which definitely not typical for that spot... and a good haul of crab.

Way ahead of you.
He’s got 4 ready for me to pickup tomorrow.
how long will they last you...best you stick to Sidney where you know where the reefs are....lol
As an aside....Vern thanked me this year for some halibut I took to him. He said many a fisherman promised him some but never delivered.
