2018 Kingfisher kicker issue

Hey all,

New to the forum and new to boating in general. Bought a 2018 Kingfisher 2425 with a 300 Yamaha and 9.9 Kicker on it. Problem I am having is that the kicker will start, rev in neutral however will not shift from Neutral to forward or reverse. Sure this is something simple but I am racking my brain and the manual trying to figure it out. Wonder if you could provide some assistance. Thanks in advance.

Could be a seized shift cable.

Remove cables from motor see if it’s the motor or the cables causing the issue.

Sounds like seized cable. Disconnect from motor linkage and see if free.
I had a Yamaha tiller cable seize and was able to free up

Was the lower unit removed recently? Maybe an impeller change?
It could be the the shift rod? Maybe it wasn’t re-connected?

I am not sure how it started working but looks like it does. It may have been corroded or jammed bu this morning I went to try it again and it is moving. Not as well as it likely should but it definitely goes into gear. As it was a used boat I wonder if it just has not been used very often. Thanks all
