2012 TUNA trips

Just. Just. Coming back now from 60 miles out. We were on the edge outside clayoquote canyon. Water was a bit blue but not totally. Fished with a couple of commies for a couple of hours. But no luck. Pretty glassy overall but some good swells. Some sets were a solid 4 meters as forcast. Did 20 to 24 on on the way out and 26 on on the way in. Totally fishable but different to what we are used to. Tomorrow looks fantastic if you want to go for a long long boart ride. I might actualy not fish and try to find a tuna addict meeting to go to instead. I'm still going to fuel the boat up though. Hehe.

At least you went for a boat ride and tried it. Beats working.

I'm going to play with my guns and take my frustration out on some targets lol!

hmmmmmm well we will have to give it a try and see what happens........I will proably hit the louden canyon area

birdsnest we are definatly going tomorrow morning if you want to head out and burn some more fuel.....

Pretty crazy stuff out there in the big blue for sure. That's what keeps one going back. Check this out...........

Just got of the phone with mine and Fishtofino's buddy John Risser aka "goatram" from the Bloodydecks site. He and his son are heading down to Ilwatco for the Bloodydecks tuna Smackdown. Here's a big shout out for team Tin Lizzy! Conditions look great down there but soupy sea's. Hope they do good. Team Tin Lizzy came in the middle of the pack in the WTC and was their first entrance into a tuna derby.

Go get em John!!! Us Canucks are routin for ya.

You can check out the action here.........http://www.tunasmackdown.com/index.html

I am hoping for a report from those who ventured extra far this weekend for some bluewater action. How Far? Did you get blue water? Any interesting wildlife. How was the weather? Get and double or triple headers? Do you have some photos? How many newbie's did you introduce to the sport that now have the "addiction"?

We saw a huge turtle last trip. We couldn't ID it for they are fairly skitish. Last year we saw a leatherback! Its interesting out there.

ok here we go. on the maiden voyage for tuna on Why Knot we went 33 for 43. kinda sad but when you only have 2 guys on the boat your bound to lose some, oh well thats fishing. istvan caught a 4-5 foot bule shark (i think) boy was that a cool looking fish. we were goin to stay out and drift but ran out of real estate for the tuna and ice. we used 8 mexi flag clone on rods and reels and one meat line with a rapala. we had multiple triples quads, quints and even a 6 banger. our fish were 22lb to 25lb average a few in 30s and a few 18 to 20. this day goes down as #1 in my book, I am TUNA Addicted. here r some pics, video to come later. the pic with the tuna underwater was from the next morning at the dock.

here is the video of this ,

Thanks for posting. Looks like a lot more fun to stop and play them rather than winch them in at 6 knots. Never tried so just guessing.

Its all fun!!! hand(meat)line, rods, I cant wait to try poppers for some topwater action!

Great video!!! Ya thats what its like. 2 guys doing the tuna shuffle square dance to the sound of the band "screaming reels"....hilarious!!! The action starts at 2:57.

Thanks for posting.

I'd love to see some photos of the gear you are running.

Yup....heard the same from one of Mke's crew last night but don't know how far out they had to run.

Hey guys we ended the day with 15 fish. Started in the louden camyon and worked our way out to 60 miles. Water was blue. Birdsnest the water we talked about was where the fish were.
