20’ Hourston 225 etec prop

Took the new owner out for a rip in the 20’ this morning, ran great and he’s headed home with her. I knew it was gonna be under-pitched, and I had told him it would be, but we’ll go for a rip and see. Sure stands up right meow, but as suspected no top speed and can’t get anywhere near wot while keeping revs down. The hardest I pushed it was 5800 still had a 1/4 ish cable left to go. Prop is a 15”x16, 25mph@ 4300rpm is the only real number we have to work with. Just trying to find out for him what the ideal wheel would be for it. 2007 225 etec on a podded 20’. I’m thinking 20 pitch should be in the ballpark, a 21.5 is perfect on that boat with the 3.6L Suzuki. But the recommended WOT of the etec is a fair bit less. Anyone have any input for the new owners?
Cheers

Forgot to say it’s. 3 blade stainless, 15”x16pitch. But I did see some re-working swirls on it and appears to never have been damaged, so there’s the possibility it has already been re-pitched at some point? It came off a 2550 tiara so the 16 pitch is plausible I reckon.

**** sakes you going bass fishing?

If you have to run a 19 then you have too much power 😆
I like black bass what can I say! I have an 18 mile run just to the surfline, and I like to be able to stay ahead of any swell. Not to mention all the fuel people and fish hopefully. Who puts a 296 in an old square body and is happy they don’t have a 350?

Your the first person in the world here on the west coast I'd recommend a 19p rebel prop to. Congratulations.

Coast guard ran them on their twin powered inflatables. Other then that they never met the criteria of a fish boat. Very aggressive props. The power is there, may as well put it to use

That’s good to know thanks! I just gandered at what my 2550 tiara has on the 250 Suzuki, 3x16x20 Suzuki stainless and it’s perfect. 6000rpm wot. Zukes have a bigger gear case though iirc, not apples to apples with other brands?

Don't even waste your time trying to compare a zuki with a gen 1 90 degree etec engine. It's like comparing a lawn mower to a powerhouse

Rebel 19 if you can find one. With that boat I would stay on the small side. Like 5600 rpm. You will be cruising fast at 3800 which is good. That's right where the engine starts singing a song. 38 - 4000. 30mph ish.

I recommended looking to get the current prop re-pitched to save some cash. I still feel like a 19 could be banging off the rev limiter. Great for a dedicated offshore rig but it will spend most of its time in the Howe sound. That boat with a 3 blade 20 pitch on a 250 zuke would still hit the limiter.

I just saw this beauty going up the cut in North Van an hour or so ago, looks awesome for sure.

Ah ya she’s a real nice looking 30’ tub, get any closer and she starts to show her age. But it’s a sound rig that has a lifetime of use left in er.

If you know what you want why make a thread about it at all?

Get yourself wrapped up in pitches or learn the different prop designs. Some are more aggressive. It's not always pitch. It's rake and diameter all combined. That boat is over powered so stick an aggressive wheel on her. Not too much as you still want the dig and low speed performance. That's why I said stick to the high (edit) side of the rpm range with an aggressive wheel. Anyway good luck I'm out

Maybe someone with the same set up will chime in. I’m not here looking for a prop for my boat, just trying to help the new owner out. If you’re not swinging a 19 pitch or better you’re underpowered…
