1981 Double Eagle gets a second chance

Saw you off Bordelais last week. Yup...good looking ship.
That was a nice day!

Must have been the Monday as pops and I went again on Wednesday and it was foggy. But more fish were active. The Monday was amazing weather wise

Yeah it was the Monday. Actually popped out to 5 mile later in the day. It was one of those rare days that we all Iive for on the water.

Questions running through my head. My dad suggested I should sell the Double Eagle and get something a little easier to run on my own like an 18’CC that is his way of saying his fishing days are done. I myself don’t feel fishing off shore after having a major heart attack is a good idea either. Do I sell the Double Eagle now or run it for a few years. I have been doing a lot of thinking and am undecided.

My favorite build thread on this forum, loved your commitment and skills you portrayed thru out it all, you built it with your hands and not your wallet, my hat off to you. Sell the boat, me thinks you and your family are already decided. It’s just a boat. Your health is way more important, and I would take it easy for sure, you don’t want to be out there by yourself in any boat with your heart condition, but a smaller boat will be less stressful for sure. I still get a rush boating, even launching solo, can’t be good for your heart. Running a boat is way more stressful than being a passenger. If I was on the island I’d offer to take you out fishing but I’m on the mainland, if you ever want to go bumper fishing around here you’re always welcome on my boat. Good luck Dan! Keep on running it. It’s not really any harder to run by yourself than a cc and it’s safer. I run my Seasport by myself all the time.

If you had a major heart attack and were technically gone from earth for awhile, you should be rethinking all these types of things. A smaller boat would definitely be easier to handle. Not fishing solo would be something to think about too. Are you bypassed or stented?

Stent, it was quite amazing how much better I felt when they put that sucker in. I had 100% blockage to the main artery running to the front of my heart. My wife also has some say as she worries every time I head out. You know, I think sttr is right. I already know what to do. Thank you fellas.

I believe they called the main artery the “Widow maker“. Great results, though, here you are alive and kicking.

This was a fantastic thread, Dan. Not many guys have the tenacity, patience, and skillset to get an old DE rebuild to the finishline. Your build turned out beautifully. Hopefully you enjoyed the journey.
I'm sad to hear you might not be keeping the DE, but more importantly, it's great you're still here. If you're not fishing a ton, maybe fishing with friends in their boats is the right option. Running back up the canal in a small center con doesn't sound ideal.

Amazing build on this boat Dan and I can only imagine how it would feel to part with it. I want you to keep it but you've got to do what's right for you and your family. I'll take you out fishing too!

Keep it and make sure you get friends, family to go with you. Don't fight it alone. I am old and going through heart failure. I kept my old Grady 232 which I can not fish alone. I have some friends who pull the boat and help me. We all benefit from a nice fishing platform and they will be given the boat soon
