Zinc stuck to aluminum pod

Hi
Can’t get inside enough to swing a hammer to tap or punch it out. Don’t want to scratch the pod with a pry bar. Can’t tap it off or muscle it. Ideas please 🙏

Yes. I’m not going force it and break something. Or do something stupid (I hope). But eventually something has to happen I guess.

Should I hit it with a wire wheel?

Yup,heat gun ,it won't harm anything. The other half of the zinc is inside the pod,so you'll have to remove your access hatch when you decide to do it.

Not sure about his,but my pod is tapped to accept only half

Agreed. Which is why I wanted to remove inspect and clean it. Boat has always been a trailer queen but I will moor it in the (next) summer months. Not sure why there’s any sealant or how extensive it is. And mine is only the half on the outside as shown. Just a stainless bolt through a hole with washer and nut inside.

Alright I'm going to chime in here..

@Offshore I thought the same when I first seen the picture. Looked like sealant squeezed out of the edges. Looking at the edges a little more clearly, sure looks like powder coat. Look at the porosity of the white coating. Sure looks like powder. Definitely looks like the mixed metals sure started going beyond the coating.

I'd say just from looking at that picture it doesn't really matter what you do, the coating has been compromised.

I'd do a few things,
First, pry that thing off, clean it up,
Stitch a piece of aluminum angle or channel on there, paint the area and attach an ALUMINUM anode to the unpainted angle or channel
leaving no holes or opportunities for corrosion on the pod
