hoping to buy something used and maybe a bit cheaper if i can find it, but i have already been considering that option as well, same with trading my 20hp 2 stroke for a 9.9 that would troll and idle better

its a late 80's mariner 20hp 2 stroke short shaft, it runs great but does not idle the best. that issue may be sorted out soon though.
my 14ft aluminum does 38km with 2 people and gear

Where are you located? I am a marine mechanic . It will adjust it and idle will be good.
