Hey Everyone,

I thought I would share my boat build with whomever is interested. I researched all over the net on forums and websites looking for info on different manufacturers and different boat builds. I did not find much so I thought I would post mine incase anyone else is in my situation at the moment or in the future. I researched many different welded aluminum alloy manufactures and there are so many good companies out there. It was a tough choice but I went with a Wooly and I have been loving every min of this boat build as the customer service has been amazing. They send me photos every few days, that way I can add or subtract options as I see the progress.

The first two photos are fro last thursday. I will post older pics later. here is some info on the boat.

Its 23' dry weight of 3200 pounds. a little more with my added options probably 300+ pounds also Im throwing a single Honda BF225 and a BFP15 Horse Kicker. The fuel Mileage on this boat is incredible for the type and size. I travel upwards of 300 miles on a 2 or 3 day trip so fuel economy played a huge factor in my decision.

My old man and myself used to fish out of a 19ft Harbercraft discovery with a 115 yammy and that boat doesn't ow us anything. It never let us down. With my old man getting older and the family getting bigger we decided to upgrade.

Yeah main reason was cost. fuel mileage on a single 225 is more efficient and cost of 1 engine maintenance compared to 2, as well as cost of the original purchase. Outboards are so reliable these days. How often do you hear of a new engine breaking down? also I have a High thrust 15 hp kicker that should push the boat at around 8 mile an hour give or take. For the most part if these new outboards do have issues its usually a fuel problem 80% of the time. And twins aint going to save you there. Unless you have separate tanks of course. But I dont and Didnt have the money to do that. so to answer your question I researched my options and came up with the single 225 as Fuel mileage was the biggest factor. Good short term savings and also long term with the Mileage.

also Im never more then 5 miles off shore. I fish in the North West. Kitimat/Bella Bella/Prince Rupert. I put on huge miles but thats travelling between places, through the inside passage and what not.

that is just awsome! I wish I could have started from scratch... What is the length of your pod? I had to go over 40 inches to accomidate full tilt on my Merc's-----Can't wait to see all the trinkets you add (boarding ladder etc.) MORE PICTURES PLEASE!

I really like the quality of the Wooldridge's. Top notch stuff coming out of that factory. I have read test reports and the fuel mileage is amazing in those boats. Nice build and I look forward to seeing the rest of her as she comes along. How big of fuel tank? was there an option to stuff more in there?

I believe You can upgrade your tank to 150 gallon if you like, obviously more $. 100 gallons is lots for me. My range on 100 gallon will be upwards of 300 miles. All the Pilot houses from 23-29 ft come with a standard 100 gallon I believe.

Yeah the 225 honda gets great milleage, something insane like 5.6 gallons an hour running at 28.5 miles. Obviously i wont get exactly that as ill be more loaded down, but those numbers are still amazing for the style of boat. Pretty excited for sure.

3200 lb dry weight and 5.6 mpg?????? Not likely. By the time you are full and in the water, you'll be at less than half that kind of mileage

i had a 150 on my stabicraft which was around 3000lbs loaded up and got around 3.5mpg and i thought that was pretty good. 5 mpg you going to need a c dory or something with a really flat hull to touch that. you maybe able to get 5 mpg but that going to be at trolling speed.

"5.6 GPH not MPG" its actually 5.1 MPG. I do realize I wont get that kind of mileage because that is under perfect conditions however I'm not just listing off numbers here. Honda performance bulletins have been posted with the exact boat that I em having built. Ill try to attach the performance bulletin. They are done under perfect conditions for the most part but they do have to have a bit of a pay load for the test. Anyway Like I say I'm not thinking I'm getting those kind of numbers by any means, I will be much more loaded and travelling in ****** conditions for the most part. But I guarantee you I wont be double those numbers.

I had a 19 ft harbourcraft for 6 years, and I would load it right up and get about 3.5 GPH running at 28 mph. 115 yammy

Outboards are so reliable these days. How often do you hear of a new engine breaking down?

If Why Not? read this I'm sure he'd say...."My 130 Honda blew a piston out the side of the cowling off 14 Mile this past week. Luckily I had the second 130 to get me home."

"pretty" reliable is not totally reliable. But for the most part, I think they are pretty reliable too.

I don't know about reliable?? lots of horror stories on Yammi's ,zukes and mercs with low hours-check the boat forums and it is downright scary-maybe your best bet is a very good dealer who will go to bat for you.

Sorry Wooley, I misread your original post. I was thinking mpg not gph. It will be a great set up and you will be one of the more fuel efficient boats in that size. Having said that, add 700 lbs. more fuel than the performance figures, 2 more people, and several hundred pounds of gear, electronics, radar, safety equipment, food, beer, ice downriggers, cannon balls, a 125 lb. kicker,etc.etc, and all of a sudden that 3550 lb. weight is well over 5,000. Now you're looking at whether the 15 3/4 x 19 pitch needs to be pared down to a 17" pitch and the fuel consumption changes as well. The tin boats are always better for fuel consumption, and Hondas are very miserly engines, but I would bet that you will be upwards of 8 or more gph at that speed and a realistically loaded boat even in the best of water conditions. If you do better, I will be the first to congratulate, but I am skeptical of performance figures like the ones you are quoting.

Here is the link to the complete test showing conditions etc. Even though the boat was on the light side during the test they are impressive numbers. The hole shot and 0-20 is impressive as well.
