Winter Harbour Chinook Regulations

Hey guy's

Am I reading the regs correctly for Chinook in Winter Harbor?

I read the regs as 2 per day with one smaller than 77cm in majority of the management areas around winter harbour.

Does this mean in my possession i can only have two springs larger than 77cm and two smaller? Or can I go out four days in a row and catch 1 fish larger than 77cmm and have four fish larger than 77 cm in my possession?

Those are daily catch quota's not possession limits. Grey area's indeed!! If I was fishing off-shore where the daily catch limit was 2 over 45cm I would not come in-shore with a large UNCLEANED fish on board and start fishing and keep another over 77cm-although perfectly legal (IMO) it might get difficult.
If you are going to fish in an area where an over under rule is in effect and you already have a large Uncleaned over on board-make sure your license is annotated correctly-clean and ice the fish (if on board) or take it to where you are staying and go fishing again. Watch how you mark your license!!! Many guys on-board my boat never think before marking area 27 when in fact we are in 127-which makes having a discussion with DFO difficult to say the least!!

Grey area indeed ! it needs to be cleared up for sure ! if someone is fishing inside ONLY! it is "NOT" correct to retain 1 fish over 77 cm per day and fish for four days and then travel home with a travel possession of four springs over 77 cm ,if the daily quota is one over and one under you can only legally travel with 2 x the daily limit of where you were fishing or 2 OVER and 2 UNDER . Now what happens when you spend your week some fishing offshore and some fishing inside is the grey area . it really is a honour system isn't it ! i do like the idea of not having large UNCLEANED fish on board from offshore go put them away and then go fishing inside , if you are stopped and checked out those fishery guy's have no sense of ha ha what so ever ! better to not make it less difficult for them and mostly you .

That's why it is very important to put the correct area on your license-ie. area 127 instead of just 27 as many people do who don't look at the regs closely.

you can't do that legally. its 2 over + 2 under in possession from area 27. your possession limit is a double of your daily limit. I guided up there for years and if you are caught by DFO you will get busted - I have asked DFO up there this exact question. They are trying to protect the fragile marble river run with these restrictions. Trust me that run needs all the help it can get.
