How is the winter fishing for kings? Will be making a few trips up there the next couple of months and was wondering if it was worth fishing.

I cannot speak of the fishing, but I think the weather will be your first concern. Mid October onwards will be storm season. Strongest winds on W Cst VRISL are north of Estevan Pt.

Guess I was thinking that maybe some of the protected areas may hold fish.

I guide up there in the summer time and have asked some of the locals how the winter spring fishin is but not to many people had anything to say about it

A Buddy of mine fished Nootka in March one year-he still talks about the snow piling up on the rods as he was trolling-and I don't think he's ever been back @ that time of year.

Didn't catch much either IIRC

There are no kings in Canadian waters. Chinook, Tyee, Springs yes, but no "kings" ;-)

I fished Nootka several years ago in very early March-we did really well along the san carlos shore and in the flats between the monument and Mcquinna. All really inside-Bring a frost scraper-nothing huge-biggest was 14 and the rest avg 6-8lbs but lots of action. Didn't try for hali's along the Escalantie shore but I'm sure they are there. Watch the weather!! and as Holmes says-absolutely no services-and no one to help if you need it-and it is COLD!!!!!

Ah, the King of roses,
And a rose the harbinger of Spring
I dab its slime behind my ear
A rose by any name would smell as dear
