by looking at the amount of people who fish in and around Sooke and Victoria may be we should have voted ourselves "the fishing capital"

Heh, there's so much to work with here, I could really get myself in trouble. So best to just leave the Port Alberni digs for another time. ;)

The Victoria/Sooke/Renfrew stretch of coast really does offer some pretty good fishing, with year-round opportunities for salmon, halibut, and crab, as well as prawns some of the year and some nice freshwater fishing too.

Does the title give any consideration what the place is like to visit or live beyond fishing? Victoria is a pretty cool place -- considering you can live in a city, but still be so close to catching decent fish.

Canada's ultimate fishing town? I dunno....but I'd rather be there than anywhere else I saw on that list. Except Dauphin Manitoba maybe.

think it just comes down to what community cared about getting the money.....even though they are not my 'home town' and I haven't even fished a few of them, I'd put the likes of Port Hardy, Gold River, Renfrew, any place Haida Gwaii obviously well ahead of the likes of Alberni/Sooke/Campbell River.

Just depends what community is being the most proactive in trying to win the thing and what community even knew the contest existed!

Well id vote for vic/sooke area just look at the times we can fish here almost everyday and there is alot of boats out in any given nice day in the winter time accually a lot of boats and a lot of people. as its usually fairly calm too cant say that for other places.

Good luck Wolf

My vote is for port just because if you do get skunked you can still buy some fresh rotten sockeye on your way home.lol

do the math, reports read Vic.93400;sooke61142;Rene26663.and just think after fishing you can have tea at the Empress![:0]"shut up and fish"Sammy

Nootka is my favorite place to fish. I really used to enjoy Bamfield too back in the 90's. The crowds at Whittlestone, and the lineups at the Kingfisher Fuel dock not so much.

Obviously Port Hardy is the real fishing capital, but nobody here voted, because as said on here many times before, we are just a bunch of meanies that dont like others comming here to fish!!!!![}:)][}:)]

I have rethought the subject after a night in the FART SACK here's is one we can all agree on Vancouver Is. should be voted fishing capital of the world. So many options to fish and take in the majestic scenery. What to do with the money, being fisherman we buy BEER.[:p] fish on Sammy

most of us small coastal towns could build a case. heck, if you look at the map of the powell river area, there's around 40 or 50 lakes, it's just too bad the salmon runs on this side have always been hit and miss.
