Wholesale Sports

What's going on with lack of inventory. I was in the Nanaimo store 3 weeks ago to get some Bradley smoker pucks and the shelves were bare. Phoned today to check on replacement racks and pucks and still nothing. Isn't this the time of year that a lot of us are smoking our seasons catch? Not only is this department lacking inventory but just take a look around and see other shelves sitting bare. Are they going under, or is this store eventually closing?

That's nothing new for W/S Sports. It's always had poor inventory throughout the store. I highly doubt that it's going under though. The other morning they sold 11 rifles and had to bring help in from the Fishing Department to deal with customer demand.

If the shelves are bare at this time of year I certainly would not be buying any big ticket items. You can hardly move in Island Outfitters. Crappy Tire usually has a good selection as does Island Outfitters or Westshore Sportfishing

I've also been disappointed with their stock on a couple of occasions at their Langley store, now the closest sporting goods store to my home.

That being said they had a midnight madness sale last night 8-12PM and on the way home from work picked up a couple of decent scopes 28% off.

I never thought I'd think this way but I was wishing they had a pick a number and serving number whatever system there when it's busy. Totally hit and miss on getting someone's attention behind the counter in the hunting department. I got in just under the hourly special cutoff.

Thats pretty typical of Langley, probably has the worst customer service ever. even when they are not busy and there are 4 of them behind the counter BS'ing good luck getting they're attention,
I have litterally walked up and down the fishing section for at least an hour just browsing and was never approached by any of them not that I needed help but you'd think they would at least approach and ask if you needed anything.
the only help in there is the older guy behind the fish counter, the rest of them are useless!

Customer service is good to excellent, inventory is an ongoing issue. In talking with staff they are well aware of the inventory problems, getting the head honchos in Calgary to act seems to be the problem however. All in all I am glad they are in the market providing more choice for the customer than was here before they opened their doors.

Hey North, If you are choked up with Wholesale in Langley, my recommendation would be Army & Navy, as well in Langley, just around the corner. Speak with Diane, shes the manager of the fishing department and was a pleasure to deal with. Had great prices, the lowest, from my stingy-man research, when I geared up my Hali Setup (Rapala 5'8'' RSC w/ Shim Tyranos 30). Preferably though, I would also recommend Gary, at Stevenson Marine, also around the corner from Wholesale Sports. Gary knows ALOT about all the local fishing. He's a great resource for information and doesn't mind sharing that wealth. As well they have great sales if you keep an eye out.

Good thing I live in Victoria...I can rely on Trotac Marine for all my boating needs.even if they don't stock it they'll get it!
The big problem with Bradley smokers is the cost of buying the pucks.A while back i got to thinking is there a better/cheaper source for smoker pucks...http://www.salmonuniversity.com/Peterson_Puck_Review.html

Wow talk about service i just got off the phone with my suppliers (yes I know their closed on Sundays but I have my ways ;) Here's the scoop they have lots of Bradley smoker pucks! your best bet; 120 pucks = $40.00

Oh don't worry I've dropped a few bucks at A & N since I moved to Langley. And Steveston Marine... ;)

And to be fair once I did get the attention of a fellow named Mike at WSS he was great to deal with.

This nothing new with WSS, it's been like that in Edmonton since Frenchy's/Barroto first became WSS! Then they built a new store a couple of miles further west on the Yellowhead and a few years ago, they built another store in S* Edmonton. Since United Farmers aquired them, not much had changed in the service or stocking dept.
They always had a shortage of product, and the store managers of the day were not inclined to help alleviate the problems..Until they opened a Cabelas a few miles away from the S* store!!! Then WSS south got a new manager and the added competion of the Cabelas has straightened out the service/stock and pricing issues that were prevalant in the past! Now, it's not uncommon to find items in WSS, cheaper than Cabelas or Bass Pro!
