Who uses solunar tables?

Whenever I go out I print them out, but I don't plan my day around them. Tides, current tables and daylight and sundown is enough for me to manage ;-)

I fish when I can. This year will be 5 trips to Ukee +/or Tofino. Leave when I can see, come in early enough to get cleaned up and rested up for the next day. For lakes, I go by the bugs. Late for sedges, midday for chronies etc...

I don't doubt there is a connection though, meaning if the bite is supposed to hot at a given time, that's the time more people will stop playing around testing the newest ruby-eyed wiggler, put out and leave out a known killer, and really watch the rod tips, thereby increasing the catch during the published hour.

That`s like the placebo effect from pills - good point. The oceans are heavily influenced by the moon, especially; so I`m wondering if fish and their activity are significantly influenced by the moon, as well. Many folks swear they are useful if you can choose between the Tuesday - a best day and Friday - not so hot. My son-in-law, a fisheries biologist, has a similar outlook to yours: because our confidence is higher, our effort and attention to detail improves and so the outcome improves. It`s likely that those who use solunar tables are also more oriented toward watching the tides, currents and the other well acknowledged infuences, as finaddict noted.

I`m naturally an early riser so I`m convinced that the first guy on the water will always do better. lol

I share your and your son-in-law's thinking
In years of fishing I have never been able to relate results with the highs of the Solonar tables.
Tides..yes, First hour after the break of day, yes, right lure and size, yes, but not Solonar...no

I never used to use them....and then I started paying attention to them.

They seem to work generally.

But they aren't written in stone......If it shows a 'low activity' day, that does not mean you're coming home skunked.

You will probably still get fish....and the better you are at rigging, choosing the correct presentation, fishing tides the more so this will be.

On 'high activity days' I have found that the hookup ratio increases.

The bite times they list...which often don't correspond with a high or low slack, seem to work.

They might say, well, low slack is at 1:30 p.m......but major bite is 2 to 3p.m......and it works for me generally.

But there is always the " wild card " factor......you could get hits when and whenever.......if a fish is going to bite...it's going to bite.

I have had some of the best days on supposedly the worst days to fish according to the solunar tables. I have also had dead slow fishing on days that were supposed to be the best days. Maybe more important on lakes.... If your not on top of the fish in the saltchuck you arent going to catch anything no matter what tables and charts your reading.

I have never noticed any consistencey to the solunar tables myself. I'd like to think there's something to them, but from
personal experience, they haven't shown me anything I already had figured out.
