When running your gear?

Just wanted to get some of the members thoughts on running the same gear on both sides of the boat. I've always tried to run 2 different things, hoochie one side and a spoon other. Lately spoons have died off over here in Powell River so we have been running just hoochies. Then we have narrowed it down to just a couple or sometimes just one. It feels like I'm going against everything I've been told. What do you guys think?

Usually start off running 2 different lures, if one side seems to get all the bites
we'll switch to the same on the other side.
If they both get bites,we'll leave them alone.

X2 what craven said

yup, I often run the same thing both sides if producing> have had good success, on my boat and guided boat...I never liked running the same gear, but the guided boat is where I was converted...if its working use it

I often run the same thing on both sides but experiment with color and depth. Lighter colors down deep and dark closer to the surface. Also if I'm running two chovies at the same time ill use different leader length until I see what's working.

Come fishing with me hurtlocker I will show you my tricks! I think you know my style by now! I'm like craven

I either run spoons or hoochies .....but not both at the same time.

Like r.s craven, if one side starts getting all the hits then the same goes on the other side.

I also find that no matter what, running the same flashers on both sides seems to work better than running two different flashers.

I will try different pairs of flashers...sometimes that alone makes the difference.( I usually run just two rods).

I don't like running spoons and hoochies at the same time because they both react to speed differently.

1fish could be fluke, 2fish is a possibility, 3fish is a pattern and I'm changing the other side.

same as craven....... Did it on the weekend with 2 spoons its worked well!

That's good advise Seafever. I don't think I give enough thought to flasher set ups. I also agree with Canso, don't change right away. Wait for a pattern to form. Also watch what happens on the turn. I've had 1 lure work well going against the current, and the other work going with. So Port side worked going out, Starboard side worked coming back.

i'm very similar except when it comes to plugs. I use a dummy flasher off the ball for plugs and spoons. I like to troll faster with the spoons and plugs than with a hoochie behind a flasher.
